Background:
There are many times, even we don’t know that movies made at B and C grade, sometimes uplifts itself to A grade level. Phool aur Kante released in 1992 falls in this category. Debut for two peoples Ajay Devgan and Madhu. I still remember the day when I bought Video cassettes of it (that time very less CD), and my journey thru the flowers and thorns, start. And believe me I found all flowers spread everywhere.
Plot:
I will say that’s the plot been not been new, but it has been nicely handled by Kuku Kholi. Its story about a Don.. .. Don of mumbai, who tries to protect his Son, by any means from college goons. Ajay is studying in some local college in Mumbai, where he meets with Madhu. And with usual twist they fall in love and got married. College has been nicely picturised and director have really tried to give a realistic view of it. Off course we can’t leave college goonda’s who are involved in drug trafficking, etc. SO, our ajay tries to stop them, resulting into the confrontation with his father The Don. Father wants his son to become the next successor, for the Don post, so he plays some big trick which results into the climax for the Phool aur Kante.
Performances:
As far as Debutant character is to be mentioned, Ajay has really handled his part at a ease: but in some scene he look kidish, nut a quite mature in action role. Madhu, is good but over-reacted in some emotional scenes. Amrish Puri as usual gives his THE BEST. Raja Murad was fine. Other villains have really supported the main cast.
Plus points:
Off course needless, mention the songs and Action are main content of the story which really supports the well shaped movies. Songs are really gr88, (well done Nadeem et al., ) and comedy good. Needless mentioned the best part is the climax, and MOVE style. Off course Bathroom fight is one of the famous and the best action scene ever-shot till now 2003.
Some quotes:
“….kuch adaein baap beta ko sikhata hai..
“ ..dhoka…..: dhoka nahin!! ada?
“.. kuch mahine 31 ke bhi hote hain…..

When I saw PHOOL AUR KAANTE, I was stunned. His performance, considering it to be his debut-making venture, took me by surprise. I couldnt have imagined myself or my colleagues performing with such maturity in our very first release. And not just the action scenes, he was good even in the emotional ones. His forthcoming releases will of course decide what the future has in store for him, but one thing is for sure -- he is very talented. It looks as if he had done his home-work thoroughly well before he wore grease-paint.?
