Pinocchio the Animated Classic

AH ’’Pinocchio’’ one of the first and best animated movies ever made.

It’s surprising that people have forgotten about this great gem.

It still stands today as Disney’s best and if you compare it to other garbage that Disney has churned out in the last few years, it’s no wonder it has been able to last this long.

It’s such a big movie that it had to be directed by two directors Hamilton Luske and Ben Sharpsteen, one of which would make other great Disney movies like ’’Alice in Wonderland’’.

The plot of Pinocchio is very simple. It’s about a tinkerer named Geppeto (Christian Rub) who despite all his toys, clocks and other inventions feels miserable because he lacks a son. When Geppeto makes this wooden life like puppet named Pinocchio (Dickie Jones) he wishes that the puppet be made into a boy.

The Blue Fairy (Evelyn Venabale) hears his wish and brings Pinocchio to life

temporarily. She tells Pinocchio that if he is a good boy, the Fairy will permanently make Pinocchio a real boy. Seeing as Pinocchio might need help in his judgment since he is a naive creation, the Fairy assigns him a guardian named Jimminy Cricket, whose a grasshoper. (How ironic as we always get this grasshopper references in Kung Fu as the wise one).

Jimminy Cricket for the most part keeps Pinocchio out of trouble or so it seems until Pinocchio naive and wanting to make friends fall under the lies of Mr. Worthington Foulfellow (A fox). Pinocchio then gets thrown in to a circus side puppet show under the influence of the evil Stromboli.

I took this situation as a metaphor for circus shows as the ringleaders of these circuses often take advantage of their talent.

Eventually Pinocchio escapes the clutches of these vile friends, but then he meets a mischevious boy who introduces Pinocchio into the world of hooking (messing around) and alcohol and what results is the famous scenes (and there are many) of

Pinocchio turning into a donkey which is an obvious metaphor for a dummy.

However turns from bad to worse as Pinocchio loving inventor Geppeto who has been looking for Pinocchio all this time gets himself into a whale of trouble (pun intended) when he gets swallowed by a huge whale , in one of the most

memorable and big budget scenes of the movie.

I can really say any more I might away too much of the movie but as you can see Pinocchio is a tremendous animated movie.

It was pretty much Walt Disney’s pet project, he watched it from beginning to end, and he got himself hundreds of people from editors to animators insuring the best movie possible.

Of course it has those memorable moments we all know, the character of Jimmy Crickett, Pinocchio being turned into a donkey, his nose growing long whenever he lies and so forth.

But there is that moral message at the end of the movie, Pinocchio gets rewarded when he is good and punished when he is bad.

Obviously judging how to conduct oneself is what leads to either a great situation or a bad one as this animated classic shows.

Pinocchio in a way shows us the trials that every boy and girl must face in his or her life. Everything from peer pressure to making the right judgements in critical situations.

As you can see it’s no wonder this classic has withstood the tests of time.

Now Disney Interactive actually has a couple of Pinocchio games out there for Gameboy and Gameboy Color. I would write a review of these games since they are great as with all Disney games (like Alice in Wonderland) but it’s not listed on here.

However still check out this animated classic and see why Walt Disney was a pioneer in animation.
