Every day is a fresh beginning,
Listen my soul to the glad refrain.
And, spite of old sorrows
And older sinning,
Troubles forecasted
And possible pain,
Take heart with the day and begin again.

I start this poem by wishing all my readers a very Happy New Year. The above poem has been used in a UK hospice to bring comfort to patients. All of us think and we all express our anguish through poems, art, cinemas, reviews and many more. My review is on a book named “POEM A DAY – Edited by Karen Mc Cosker & Nicholas Albery” so as to enlighten each of our day with a poem and to justify our views with what the author have portrayed through it. It’s been quite long since I wrote a poem since I find that there are much more than what we call as ‘creativity’. Creativity is not dead, long live creativity!
Now coming to the subject why should we read poem. Good Question! I myself searched a lot and couldn’t find the answer. But don’t you think there is something like we get through our own experience? Yes, experience is the soul to many lives. Like William Blake once said,
I have no name
I am but two days old
What shall I call thee?
I happy am
Joy is my name
Sweet joy befall thee!
Like they say, experience is Guru, I started experiencing the joy! Joy of reading what ‘William Shakespeare’ or ‘Emily Dickinson’ once penned down. The power of words can’t be under estimated! Wendy Cope wrote a poem named “Giving up Smoking” and said “I gave up smoking on 21st January 1985 and wrote this a couple of weeks later. People who have never been addicted to nicotine don’t understand what an intense love poem it is.” True! Based on my personal experience I have understood what the author meant to express. It’s factual. And of course do not assume it’s just a fiction. At times when we are lonely, and miles apart from our dear ones, few words could wipe off our sorrows. 366 poems, different authors and variety of themes makes this book a ‘worth buy’ for any body who loves poems or anybody think they are eccentric in their own way. Because not all can read with passion, and not all can write! But all of us can admire their work and adapt it in our lives. Reflection of passion! Yes, that’s what I meant to say. I have read many sonnets of Shakespeare and great poems by legends. Being an amateur where we stand and how to reach there may tempt us to develop our talent. Based on my life and the way it have shaped, I started writing. Not love poems but the feelings buried within expressed through words. I shall post one of my poems here so as to let you know that, if I can write; then all you talented writers can pen down 10 times more than me.
Romance in Wilderness - a true love story [ 2004 - 2006 ]
Darling, when this music played
I closed my eyes, reeled back my life
Sometimes its hard to keep you away
Like a unicorn, you come and smile to me
If I close my eyes, I see you in my dreams
You sing, dance and Im fading away
This Music tells story, a tragedy
I cant stop dreaming and if I close my eyes,
Will I ever meet you in a dream?
Will I ever hold your hands and walk?
Ill see you in winter, hear you all the ways
Days were longer and nights were colder
Wouldnt you miss me?
I knew the sky was blue,
And the moon was big
Will I ever get to see the sun?
Will it rain or will it snow?
I dont care if the moon is blue
And it doesnt matter if the sun dont shine
Im in love with you. And I care for you.
In a rainy day, peeping through my window
My eyes met your soul, smiled and kissed
Will I get to meet you again?
And would you trust me? or,
Would you rather listen to them?
I dont want to reach my grave before I say this
And I dont want this buried in me
I want to let you know that I LOVE YOU
Now this music is coming through my veins
Let me dig my heart and show your face
I have sent you a message and it says all
Im waiting for your reply, would you.?
I can wait for a life time to see my face,
Painted in your heart lime and cherry
Just before this music ends forever.
Just before I close my eyes forever.
“This book is a dream, a revivalist campaign, a challenge, a book of days, and an anthology, all in one.”
- The Guardian
POEM A DAY makes an ideal gift for just about any occasion. It can bring together friends and loved ones, reading the same poem each day…
To end my review: There was a little girl who knew nothing about life. She was very talented but, she didn’t know what she was capable of. I happen to meet this girl and understood that there is something in her. Now I wanted to do something different from her other friends. Based on my life experience I polished my real time visions into a picturesque manner so as to enlighten this gem into a sparkling one. I achieved it. She never stops sketching, dancing or singing. Because what we see, is not reality. But what we have guided through the legends may polish our thinking to the right track. I would like to thank all my readers and for those who have rated as well as comment. Good Day!
