Pokiri...Simply superb yet normal!!!

I will kill any one for money… this is the role of the hero in this movie…

Remake is not a new trend in Movies...yet Pokiri is a different one…Lets discuss this argument at the end of this review.

If you have not waited long enough to see the list of the people on and behind the scenes, here is a quickie…

If you are looking forward to see Mahesh Babu in a romantic lead role, you can skip watching the movie. It is a lot above the normal hero meets heroine…love at the first sight stuff and a little less to an action movie. Yes, there is this Hero meets heroine, love at first sight and happy ending after the hurdles for the lovers, but the action part dominates this.

Ileana in the female lead, has portrayed herself well and she is gorgeous in the movie. The childish behavior is not seen in this movie as in “Devadasu”, but she plays responsible middle-class family girl. Of course, no second thoughts about Mahesh too. He was looking really smart with his new hairstyle.

Floating over the story line (I don’t want to go deep and reveal the story: P), Mahesh Babu is a street chap with a group of friends, who earns his living kicking and killing people for money. But if you think he is a rowdy sheet, then you are wrong. He is hit man with a kind heart. He only hits the bad people…at the least kicking and killing of common people was not portrayed in the story. The first fight which introduces our hero remembers you of a famous hindi movie (write to me after you find the similarity in the movie). And after this fight, the director (writer(?)) introduces the female lead and the love at the first sight concept together. The hero and heroine fall in love with each other, but the girl expects her guy to be good and not a goon. There is a small melodrama due to this aspect, but not too much. That’s fine. Coming to the other side of the story, Our hero – I mean the street goon, starts to work for Land Mafia in their gangwars, and after the death of one gangleader, the main villain steps into the story and what happens from there is the story of the second half. I am not going to reveal this to help you enjoy atleast the other part of the story. I should say one thing here. One will really enjoy the first half even you cannot listen other dialogues more than the gun shots and gang wars while the second half gets a bit serious(??).

The cast performance was really excellent. The humor was not like what we see in normal Brahmanandam, Ali and Venumadhav styles but a bit different. Shayaji Shinde’s dialogues were really thought provoking for the TV channels and News papers if they take them in a right way. The writer did try his best to complete the Love part of the movie but he couldn’t do it. The only draw back is that the story reveals itself after a point and all the characters except the hero get to be weak after a certain part in the movie. But I think, it has something to do with the real life incidents too. Though the climax is as expected, the dialogue at the end was really nice. The sound effects were really nice and the music was ok ok. The screenplay was good. Of course the Vaishno Academy trademark(!!). Totally, you can watch POKIRI and enjoy for full 3 hours.

Now, let me comeback to the part we have pushed to discuss at the end. The remake strategy - Now what does this have to do with Mahesh’s movie…? The movie POKIRI has some similarities to the Hollywood movie. Even the underlying story is the same, this Tollywood movie is more dynamic. I am still wondering if Pokiri is a remade master piece of Puri Jagannath from the Hollywood movie (I haven’t mentioned the Hollywood movie name here to preserve the interest of the people who want to watch the movie).

Wish you a happy viewing…
