Porsche Cayman

Yeah, I know what you will think when you see that car. They call it the Cayman. Its right from the German stables and its another piece of engineering ingenuity. But, it will look familiar. Hold on. Thats not something new. Thats a Boxster with a roof. They should’ve called it Coxster. Its just got a hard top. Yeah people, I saw it. I rode on it. It feels like riding a pony. Mind you there are many a defects in that car. Everything looks terribly wrong. On first experience, it looks like a Kangaroo from the back.

But annoyingly, it does have many great qualities. What you need is a sense of speed and a great capability to handle its understeer. At pistons being displaced 3.4 L in the engine, everything looks middle class. Its situated right in between the Boxster and the Carrera 911. Its power, its price range of INR 68 lacs and its size too. With a top speed of 171 mph, the hardtop feels unneccesary. Even though it doesn’t have a good room for head and leg space, the car is a serious adrenalin pump. What can I say about this car? Its inexpensive, it can do a 0-100 in under 4 secs in the right hands and most of all, it has a great ground clearance, an ideal for Indian roads.

Its also got a new tech gadget called SATNAV with it. Full formed at Satellite Navigation, it tells you exactly where you are going and where there’s a trafic jam. Although this still has to come to India, its already in the UK and up and going. This is basically a GPS reciever with a large colourful screen and embedded with a music player. According to me, it is the perfect roadster like car for the Indian roads.

What else? Porsche has already sold two units in competition with Audi TT’s six being sold in Delhi itself. Porsche is prestige and this car is no joke. What I mean to say is that, when I saw this car, I had chills run through my spine and I had the feeling that the world came to an end. Its dimensions are same like a Honda City, but the turbocharged performance is just remarkable. Another great feature is the exhaust tone. It has the typical Porsche note, the one very clearly marked in the Need For Speed Most Wanted.

For a serious buyer who wants to pack some punch without burning quite a big hoel in the pocket, this is the ideal car. And here’s an advice, race it on the Expressway or the Grand Trunk on a rainy day. That’ll tell you exactly what the car can do. It has traction powered right upto itd wheels. It feels like its reading your mind. Even at top speed of 75 mph (apprx 130 kmph) this car can make sudden swerves and turns without mumbling. Its also rumoured to have frost free windows, although I couldn’t concentrate on that fact while on the ride, I want to believe it.

Thats it. Hope you serious car racers will think of this before jumping into buying anything else.
