Breathtaking...but fresh breath

Andaman.....There is one thing that I should thank the Britishers for, Sir Archibald Blair was the first to initiate inhabitation in this unexplored paradise. Although they destroyed 7-8% of the vegetation, they helped me go away from a cosmopolitan, polluted & busy landscape into the lap of Mother nature.

Andaman and Nicobar islands- I was told we were to go there. I was very excited and had imagined how wonderful it would be there and after spending 2 hours in the air during the Kolkata-Port Blair flight. The first impression that this imagined paradise gave me was not satisfying as we were welcomed by showers of rain in Port Blair which started giving us feeling sof hopelessness. We went in November 2005 end and it is the time of rainy season over there. So , we were in a way, expecting rains.

We had taken a package and to tell you if you want to enjoy the heavenly pleasure of Andamans, you should and you must take a package. Becuase it is an isolated place and you may not enjoy if you keep ur tour unplanned. The rain did not allow us to visit the places on the first day, so I spent my whole day watching TV while Mummy papa rested. By the way I enjoyed the rain. To tell you we stayed in Aniidco’s Megapode Nest hotel. The hotel was really great and sasta and tikau. It is a 3 star hotel and you get a package from Indian airlines which includes the cost of everything including food and travelling and sightseeing. Not even a penny goes from you pocket (they don’t include liquor charges). The hotel is really worth of the money. You get to see the blue and wonderful and magnificent and clean and incredible and baffling and..........in other words world best sea--of Andamans--from the Hotel.

The first day was cancelled and on the second day we went to Coral islands in a ferry taken from jetty (i think the name of the jetty was Aberdeen jetty, I’m not sure). The whether was clear but soon heavy showers of rain started falling and made the sea rougher. I was at this moment thinking that this is the last time I am doing anything. Now, Coral Islands is a wonderful place and Thank God we reached there safely. There, you can collect the coral reefs lying on the beach and do snorkeling and see the coral reefs inside the sea. This was the greatest think I have ever done. Going inside the sea and that too thousands of Kilometres away from Bombay. I also saw and climbed for the first time a real light house in coral islands. The view from the light house was.........oh! I still remember it! What an incredible view was seen from there. And what do you expect, the sea was green??? N-O NO. It was as blue as the swimming pool!

We also went to, of course, Cellular Jail-the landmark of Andaman & Nicobar islands. It is becuase of the cellular jail the Andamans were named as Kaala Pani. The sound and light show enraged me against the Britishers (and now I am thanking them, llalat hai mujh pe ). We also went to Viper island and saw the harbour and port and also a navy ship in action ie it was test firing.

WE also went to Corbins Cove beach. It is also a great beach.

ANd also we went to Chidiya Tapu where we relaxed as the environment was very very very very very very very peaceful.

We went to anthropology meuseum, marine meuseum, horticulture farm etc.

There are many other places in Andmans and obviously they are all islands. If you are a fan of Scuba diving, then Havelock island is the ideal place, you may go there and there are hotels also present there for your stay. But Havelock island requires at least 2-3 days (i mean going and coming both as it takes a lot of time to reach there). There are many other islands you may see. And one more important one is the Barren island where as u know lava flows into the sea. It is an active volcano.

The sun rises before 5 in the morning in Andamans.

There is primitive tribe in Andamans, not only one but many such as Jarawa, Sentinalese etc. You have to take permission to meet them.

I still think of going to the Andamans which remind me that there IS paradise on this Earth, The Earth which we have transformed into a hell. Andamans, it should be Andamahaans.
