The title is what Port Blair is all about.
I loved it from the air when coming into land from Chennai. The first thought, which came to my mind, was how wild and beautiful it looks, I have been meaning to write this review for a long time. Being a master procrastinator now is the time I finally decided to put finger to keyboard.
I was there pre tsunami. Hence I do not know what that dance of destruction has left behind on that beautiful wild and poetic land. Being in any of the islands of the Andaman’s, gives you a feeling of the glory of creation. It shows the sea in all its majesty. Of course it goes without saying it puts us human beings in our proper place.
Port Blair is basically an overgrown tribal village. Do not expect anything but the basic modes of transportation. It is one big Central Govt. employees and defense quarters. Surprisingly there is no big beach in Port Blair, the shoreline is very rocky, and you can sit for hours staring at the surf breaking on the rocks. The beach we went to was a wild cove which reminded me about the famous five and adventurous four books I had read as a kid. It was a very secret cove protected by rocks and two sides and the sea very clam on the inside. No wandering noisy people, no plastic bags and bottles, aaaaahhhh heaven.
I am not listing down the scenic spots and island names as these can be got easily from websites and guidebooks. Was just sharing some thoughts, which may help you in deciding your holiday spot.
BUT, the one place I should have to talk about is the Cellular Jail. I very firmly believe that place has a lot of secrets and there are lost souls still there. The jails looks beautiful from far neat and nice, but you get the vibes of pain, desolation and cruelty as you walk through it. It is almost as if you can hear cries of Vande Mataram as if in a movie. Believe me any Indian irrespective of his level of patriotism, will come out with a heavy heart and bowed head.
