West Coast Beach ...

Port Dickson or fondly refered to as PD by the natives ...

From Seremban (which incidentally is my hometown!!) is only about 25 minutes away on the new highway albeit boring straight road and some RM2 or more toll.

Or you could take the more scenic route via the old road past via Rasah through Mambau on onwards through Lukut before coming out at PD town ... some 12-15 miles of beach is called PD - some of it isn’t great to swim in too rocky, too strong currents or just too much oil slicks from the oil tankers that come in to the refineries there.

So whatcha do in PD?? What you normally do at a seaside holiday spot ... get burnt in the ocean, have family picnics by the beach, BBQs where the authoritise designate you can.

There are also a great many seafood places but the one you should get to is *gawd* I forget the name is on the old road out in Kg. Gelam - nice view of the sea and pretty decently priced seafood for those who like crabs, prawns squid or cuttlefish and their steamed fish with ginger and soy sauce - WHOA!!!!

Otherwise take a drive up slightly further into 10th Mile and you will come upon the Blue Lagoon ... quite famous stretch of beach (but too popular ....) a little further up is Cape Rachado - and there’s treacherous waters not really for swimming as the currents are very strong .... there and a lighthouse that shines bright ... very picturesque!

There are fairly decently prised chalets, service apartments, hotel and private bungalows as well as places with dorms that are really really cheap and good for group outings. Anything going from RM50 a night (even less if you are good at bargaining) and places like Avillion that are on the pricey side because they have chalets out on the sea ....

If you went by the Lukut way ... there is an old fort (not that you see much of it now just odd stones here and there) but there is a serenly calm silence shattered only by shutterbugs and loud chatter of the group that drives up there.

PD may not match up to the other east coast beaches but she’s a welcome short drive for most KL-ites and Seremban folks - for a quick beachside getaway ....

And if you ever get here M2M me and I’ll be happy to show you around .... you pick up your tabs I’ll up mine but PD is good fun for couples, friends, family or company trips ... come one come all ....
