Poseidon- first lemme tell u the meaning of the word. In Greek religion and mythology, its the god of the sea, protector of all waters.Yeah, I watched the movie by this name, but if u ask me did this defination had anything to do with the movie. Then I wont deny the fact that yes it had the existance as the name the unlucky ship. Just the name lemme first emphasize on this fact.
Now lets not get off track as the movie was. Before entering the theatre I had many hopes with the movie. I had no idea that the makers of TROY & THE PERFECT STORM could deliver such a bogus & unrealistic adventure....no I must say a comedy in the sea. Lemme talk about the story first, this is a ship which they call poseidon. A lotta ppl decide to celebrate their new year on this ship. It started with some ppl highlighted as usual, a father(Kurt) against the affair of his daughter, a Old drunk guy who was so sad that he was about to jump die into the sea, some guys on the table gambling.
Now, the clock ticks pass 235959 and we have a new year but no my dear frnds this was not enough as the mother nature had something more adventurous than celebrating new year in the sea in her mind. She responds with a TSUNAMI kinda wave. And this oldie guy who was about to jump off the ship which I guess could be termed a suicide (as he did not seem to be in a mood of a nice swim into the open sea). He changes his mind of ending his miserable life looking at the high wave and runs inside the ship. This oldie surprises u throughout the movie, everytime coming out alive n safe out of many dangerous situation.
Now the ship is overturned by the strong wave, and all the ppl in the ship fall ooff the floor to the ceiling and in the aftermath of the disaster many loose their lives, but nonono this oldie still remains whole body intact, still strong like arnold. Now a few ppl among the many survivors decide to find their way up the top (means the bottom) of the ship. These ppl are KURT and ofcourse his dauughter and to be son-in-law, a former marine(this is the main rescuer), oldie(I talked much about earlier), mother n son....excuse me if I miss any other in this gang as I slept in between. This gang had just one motto and the motto was ’’To get themselves out of this ship as soon as possible’’. I was not able to figure out this fact that ’’why did other ppl not followed them ?’’. The real surprise comes, as u start realizing from here onwards that this aint a movie anymore, rather a video game, with a few stages to complete to come out of the ship.
Lemme tell u one thing that this gang had EXPERTS, and I m serious while saying this. The marine reminds many times that he is the guy who could recue this bunch of ppl from any imaginative unrealistic situation. A few achievements to his name would be ’’Making a bridge of rope by showing his jumping n swimming skills to save the father & daughter combo’’, then ’’Saving the child out of mother n child combo, GOD knows how & why the child gets separated from the gang as they were all together always, ohhh he might have chased some toy (still a mystery)’’, then ’’with his knowledge burst open the valves’’, then ’’putting his life in danger while kicking the gas cylinder in the climax to stop fans’’. Now the other amazing gang member was the LITTLE child. He helps out by ’’OPENING the screw with his small hands’’. This was a real life saving act for the gang and here where our journey through the disaster proceeded further.
Kurt saves the gang, by giving up his own life. He turns off the fans at the climax. He could have saved himself by sending his to be son-in-law whom he disliked. The ladies in the gang completed the cry and scream squad, which I hope is required in these sort of movies.
The funniest part comes when gang - KURT and some other ppl (I dont remember apologies on my part and thanks to the AC of the theatre which was working, helped a lot to sleep), comes out of the ship and finds the life boat. They fire up into the sky which felt like a new year celebration and hey SURPRISE !!...here come the helicopters to rescue them from nowhere. I think it was one of the surprising rescues for these heli guys too, as the ppl were already into the life boats and there was nobody to be really rescued except this gang. Mind u there were no human bodies floating on the sea floor, all went into the sea and never came up. Then, I looked around the theatre and reliazed that it was not the disaster for the ppl inside the ship, but was actually for us. In fact, just like there weren’t any bodies on the sea floor, there weren’t many spectator’s left awake after the movie. They had to be awaken !!
A complete waste of money I would term this, please die gracefully by drowning into the sea rather than getting tortured and murdered many times with this mindless disaster spoof.
