Neptune Poseidon

I saw the advanced screening of ’’Poseidon’’ at Franklin Institute Tuttleman Imax Theater two days before its release. I must say I enjoyed viewing this motion picture in an Imax format, it’s astounding. ’’Poseidon’’ features some of the most noted and respected actors as Richard Dreyfuss, Kurt Russell, and Josh Lucas. However, I was not impressed with this cast of actors their acting roles appeared to be brief, and dull. Richard Dreyfuss provides a mediocre acting rule as a love-hurt homosexual who attempts to kill himself when attempting to throw himself overboard. Kurt Russell provides a short role as the captain of the Poseidon. Josh Lucas provides the best and dramatic acting role as a brave survivor who stops at nothing to survive the disaster of the Poseidon, and rescue the others except a Hispanic bus boy.

I was pleasantly surprised to see the appearance of Latino actor Freddy Rodriguez (Six Feet Under) who is among the survivors of the Poseidon but is the first to die when his attempted rescue ends dreadfully. (An element of cinematic racial bias I often dread when watching Hollywood films, its seems Hollywood must always project minorities in a negative light.)

“Poseidon” is an adventurous movie that you’ll enjoy. If you saw the 1972 release of ’’The Poseidon Adventure’’ than you’ll enjoy this remake as well. Just don’t look for the same effective and dramatic acting roles from this cast as the cast members in the 1972 release.

“Poseidon” is written and directed by John Seale, Wolfgang Peterson, and written for the screen by Mark Protosevich. Poseidon is based on the novel by Paul Gallico, and a remake of the 1972 classic “The Poseidon Adventure.”

The running time for this movie is 1:30.

The movie begins on board the Poseidon cruise ship seemingly life on this luxury ship is at ease, and everyone is having a wonderful time. There is good music, good food and it’s New Years Eve. Richard Dreyfuss portrays, Richard Nelson a heartbroken homosexual who ends up alone on New Years Eve. Kurt Russell portrays Robert Ramsey, the ship’s captain and father who cope with the antics of adolescence.

The crewmembers notice a colossal tidal wave coming toward the ship, and make every attempt to turn the ship around to no avail. When the ship is hit by the tidal wave things go dangerously havoc. The passengers are on a race for time to save their lives and survive the disaster of the Poseidon only a few people survive and they must think of a way to get off this ship alive.

Final Thoughts

I’ve pretty much expressed my feelings about this remake of the 1972 classic “The Poseidon Adventure.” “Poseidon” is an adventurous movie filled with decent action scenes and breath taking visuals of the ocean along with dramatic footage of a turbulent sea, and a ship that cap sizes. Watching ’’Poseidon’’ at an Imax theater was exciting and enjoyable. The 3-D Imax setting, sound effects, pacing and intense action scenes are what make this film interesting. “Poseidon’s” plot and storyline pretty much stay in line with the 1972 classic “The Poseidon Adventure.” The cast in “Poseidon” doesn’t deliver stunningly dramatic lead roles as the previous cast did in 1972 so don’t look for any top of line acting in “Poseidon.” Overall, “Poseidon” gets four stars it’s not a total waste of a $10.00 box office ticket.
