I had spent about 2 months, searching for best grinder for my mom. We were using some local brand after our Maharaja mixer broke down. This local brand mixer was fine, but made lot of noise and the jar couplings were wearing down quickly. We have spent few hunderds on this grinder now. My mom badly needed a new grinder. I started searching for it in my favorite Mouthshut.com. It had helped me very much in successfully choosing Aquaguard iNova and V-guard Solar water heater.
Food Processors or JMGs?
In my search I came across JMG(Juicer Mixer Grinder) and Food processors. I was attracted to Food Processors as they did lot more jobs than JMGs. They cut vegetables, wet grinding, coconut grating, dough kneading, in addition to JMGing. I shortlisted Sumeet SP-16 Food Factory, Bajaj FX 10 Food Factory (bajaj gives 5 yr motor gurantee) and Kenstar Food Processor in order of preference. There were few complaints with Kenstar and Bajaj.
I searched thoroughly for Sumeet model, nor did I find it in their site nor in any Indian or foreign eCommerce site. Local enquiry made me think that Food processors are good but, the very purpose of JMG will suffer in these models and present food pros are not that sophisticated to withstand Indian cooking needs. Our main need is grinding and I dont want this to suffer at the cost of an extra ease of machine kneading. So, I had to drop the idea of Food Processors.
Narriowing down to Preethi
So, in the JMGs after reading reviews at mouthshut, compareindia, naaptol, I shortlisted Preethi ChefPro Plus, Phillips HL 1643 and Kenstar Stallion in order of preference. My sister uses Phillips HL 1643 and is very happy with its silent motor and Juice extractor. Phillips and Kenstar are good mixies, with minimal negetive feed backs, but the reason why I got convinced with Preethi is: firstly, it has 100% positive feedbacks and no negetive feed backs; secondly, it has 750watts motor unlike any other in the market, thirdly its a Indian made and they claim that they have made it sturdy for Indian kitchen needs. Their website has good details of the grinder.
About Preethi ChefPro Plus:
Their website https://perfectpeninsula.com advertises a 550watts 5Jar(2 SS jars, 1 chutney jar, 2 plastic Grind n store containers) mixie with free Juice extractor. It seems they are more interested in foreign consumers. Their website is poor with just one dealer address in India and no details of other models or variatons available in India. In Hyderabad, AP I had trouble finding a genuine Preethi dealer and had to buy it in retail. Here in Hyderabad, the ChefPro Plus model has 750watts, 5 jars (2 SS jars, 1 chutney jar, 1 plastic Grind n store container and 1 Juice extractor). I was impressed with sturdy motor, design of jars and esp juice extractor. What distinctly catches your observation here is the motor is loud and noisy. They convinced me its because of 750watt motor. However, there are some faulty units which make quite loud noise, I had to exchange my grinder with other piece which makes comparitevly low noise, but certainly not as silent as Phillips. The cost of the piece MRP Rs. 4096/-. But dont forget to bargain. Youll get it for Rs.3400 and I doubt the quality offered by Bigbazaar who offer it at Rs.3200.
Preethi gives 2yr motor guarantee(service done at the shop you bought) and life time free service at Preethi authorised dealers(Secunderabad).
Preethi offers new "Blue Leaf Gold" and "Blue Leaf Platinum" models which has same features as ChefPro Plus and a new Leaf like design of body and jar lids, contrary to L-shaped grinder body. I heard complaints of lids poping out in this model. So, I didnt dare to try my luck with this model. They also claim to say they have made the motor more silent. Youll have to check for yourself.
My advice is compare the sounds of ChefPro Plus and Blue leaf. Go for ChefPro Plus if you can bear the slightly loud noise for few minutes of the motor and beware to check to hear the noise with motor on and jars on it at few shops before you buy.
I am pleased to see my mom work happily in kitchen with her new grinder and a smile on her face. We are impressed except for the loud noise. Thank you Preethi and https://Mouthshut.com. target="_blank">Mouthshut.com
