After a long time Vivek Oberoi was doing a solo lead movie. And his fans, (which is me!), were excitedly waiting for this movie, expecting it to be another Saathiya. But, alas, the movie does not live up to the expectations.
The script is gripping, sometimes, especially in the first half.
But the movie lacks seriously in screen presence. Vivek Oberoi overacts time and again. And fails miserably in creating a cool thief ( like Hrithik in D:2 ). Dont get me wrong, I am huge fan of VO. And I was trying very hard to like the movie. The movie is Ok and all, but Viveks performance is not up to the mark. In fact, irritating at times. And on top of it, he looks quite old in some parts.
The central character, Prince, gets maximum screen time and the movie depends on that character. So I guess a proper choice for this role would have been, Hrithik Roshan or Imran Khan or maybe Shahid Kapoor. Someone who has great screen presence along with great acting skills.
As for the other actors, the villain Isaiah is impressive. The leading lady Aruna Shields is quite memorable. The rest of the cast is just plain average. The movie has some other good points. Like in the 1st half, the plot is quite intriguing and holds interest till invterval. In the 2nd half, Vivek & Arunas chemistry is good. Action stunts, in the 2nd half are thrilling and quite enjoyable. The locations are good. Music is very good. Atif Aslam rocks!
So in all, Prince is not really that bad. But in the absence of a good star cast and a gripping screenplay, it fails to create that magic. Well, it can be a one time watch purely for some masala entertainment.
As for Vivek, he is yet to recover from Ashes. Sad to know that an actor who was once known for his charismatic performances like Saathiya, Yuva, Road, has today lost his spark :(
