Priya Cinema is not a multiplex, it is an old and aristocrat movie hall located in Rashbehari Avenue, near to Deshopriyo Park. It is just an auto trip away from Gariahat junction and hardly takes 20 minutes to reach there from Gariahat.
Priya Cinema has its own tradition and charm. It is not an ultra modern cinema hall like modern day multiplex. But, several distinguished film personalities in Kolkata and from India visited this movie hall. The ground floor of the building has lots of black and white photos of old days, which reminds us the golden days of Bengali and Hindi cinema and its tradition. There was a time when all the Satyajit Ray movies first screened here. Now, also when any of the Feluda stories release by eminent Director Sandip Ray( Son of Late Satyajit Ray), Priya would be the first choice for the films. I have watched all Feluda movies on Priya.
Presently, films directed by Rituparno Ghosh, Aprana Sen, Kaushik Ganguly and other famous bengali directors are always screened here. I can remember, once I came out after watching a Bengali film named "Waarish" in matinee show, and saw the director of this film Mr. Kaushik Ganguly just watching the reaction of the audience! So, You can just imagine the popularity and importance of this movie hall.
It also screen popular Hindi films. I remember to watch a first day first show "Kuch Kuch Hota Hein" in Priya, it was a housefull blockbuster.
You can book tickets online too for this movie hall, and also book ticket from physical counter located on the ground floor. Advance booking facility is also there. As it is situated in a prime location, there are plenty of food option in front of the hall both veg, non veg.
The hall is full A/C, Dolby digital with good sound effect. Ticket price is just OK comparing to the present day trend. I always like to watch movie in Priya Cinema hall, so I recommend it.
