Snow represents a microcosm that mirrors, even if in a deliberately distorted fashion, Turkeys recent history, cultural politics, and renewed external and internal struggle for self-definition.
This book is postmodern novel written by Turkish writer Orhan Pamuk. Kar is the word for Snow in English. Snow is not the first thing that comes to mind when most Westerners think of Turkey. The beautiful leading women in Snow are symbolic of the soul of a nation.
One of the achievements of “Snow” is to look beyond the tired arguments about why so many Turkish women cover their heads. Snow is also an avowedly political work of fiction, of a kind still relatively rare in Britain.
