F.C. Road - Where is the calm and charm gone

I am a frequent visitor to FC Road since my college days. I have always loved this place and used to be our hang out place during college days.

The primary reason to hang out then was not for shopping but for the charm and peace of the place.

When I see the FC road today I cannot help think about the FC Road 15 years ago.

This road had huge banyan trees on either side of the road and used to nest thousands and thousands of birds.

One fine day the government decided to expand the road and cut all those huge 100 year old trees in just a matter of day and I was a witness when this happened. There were some environmental NGO’s who tried to protest but it did not matter much to the executors. The thousands of birds who had their homes there on these trees where homeless and we could hear the cry and panic of these birds when they came to their nests that evening. Till date I am unable to forget the cry of these thousands of birds that were left homeless.

I am not against development and expansion for improving the life of Human population but my only question is what have we achieved by cutting those trees?

Today, if you see the FC road either sides are packed with either street hawkers or small shops which sell fashion products and food items. So did we cut those trees to pave a path for hawkers and shops. If this was the outcome why were the trees cut? The trees that gave shade in the concrete jungle, the trees that was a nest to thousands of birds. Couldnt there have been a balance maintained with the trees?

We Indians have really become selfish so much that we can think about only "MY Survival"

The future generations have a lot to deal, otherwise we are digging our own grave.
