I have lived off and on in Pune during the last 3 winters. I live in Bhosale Nagar. Pune is located about 100 miles from Bombay. It takes anywhere from 1 1/2 to 2 hours to get there Bombay, depending on traffic. The weather is Punes best feature. October through March are very pleasent, warm during the day and cool during the evenings and nights. Pune has a natural westerly breeze which is great during the evening hours. After about April, it becomes very hot, anywhere from 37 to 42 degrees C as a high.
Pune has a population of about 4 million. It is growing very fast due to the I.T. industry. Most of the people in Pune are Marathi speaking. They speak Hindi as well. The chief mode of transport is motorbike or scooter. There is also bus, autorickshaw, and of course, automobiles. The first three contribute to Punes massive pollution problem. Pune is very polluted. Drivers drive like they are trying to commit suicide. The roads are torn up and full of potholes. Traffic is not so bad, but when a light goes down, it can be a long wait.
Most of the nightlife and things to do are in Koregaon Park. There are a lot of foreigners living there. Its considered to be the most happening part of the city. Vaishalli resturant in deccan is always packed. They have great dosas and get a lot of the college crowd. Pizza Hut on JM road is also very popular. For Chinese food try Mainland China, its just great. I thought that Sorhab Hall was a great place to hang out. It has a nice italian place called Pizza Express. Theres also a gym, Endurance, Crossword bookstore and several other resturants and bars.
So Pune has its positives and negatives. To see whether you like it or not, give it try. Would like to give 2.75 stars but I cant so I will give it a 3
