Since my young days, I have been following a lot of TV cookery shows, used to cook on my own and have even traveled for the sake of food!As I got the news that Mr. Jiggs Kalra is launching his restaurant is Chandigarh, I was prepared to go and feast there, unfortunately though, I was abroad for a while before the restaurant was formally launched.Well, I returned a couple of days ago and the first thing I did was that I told my wife to make a reservation for the night at Punjab Grill.
So heres our experience: -
1. Ambiance : It has to be one of the most beautiful restaurants I have seen in CHD, if not in India.
2. Service: From the hostess who ushered us to our table, to the sweet steward who served us, everybody was very hospitable and even the stupidest of our demands were attended to( mine being asking for ice added to the onion slices served)
3. Food: Here we go:
Starters: We asked for a portion of Salmon Tikka and Oh My God!, This tikka has to be one of the most exotic fish snacks I have ever had.
Main Course: We ( Me, my wife and my Dad) were game to try new and interesting food and we ordered the most expensive dish on the Menu( which was a rice course!!) called Guchee pulao, teamed up with Raita, Dal Makhani, Rara Meat and Tandoori Roti( I love mutton with Plain rotis)
The Pulao, Once again, was something exotic( the steward later told us that Gucchhee is a jumbo Morel( a kind of Mushroom) which comes for about 33000 per kg!!!
The Dal was too good( but I was eating just the rice, as it was!
Rara Meat was a little to spicy for me and the rotis were, as asked for, Crisp:)
I had a lovely experience at Punjab Grill and am a fan already,
I had thought that my lovely experience is comig to an end till the steward got us something in a Shot Glass called as PAANSHOT, well, I had never tried anything like this ever before!
This was a liquified sweet pan.
I will always cherish this visit to Punjab Grill and would recommend it to all my fellow Chandigarhians:)
Chak De!
