Putra Jaya is the new Federal Territory that came about as a vision of the former PM Dr. M and what a sight Putra Jaya is to behold.
All the Ministries have since moved there and some of the buildings just leave you agape.
One of the highlights of a trip to Putra Jaya would be the Mosque - I call it the pink frostie mosque and it is beautiful. It overlooks the man made lake as well where there used to be a more attractive Souk for lunch time shopping as well as eateries to fill them hungry tummies.
Apart from the Mosque and Souk, we can if we somehow like me keep getting lost within the precints end up at the front gate of the Prime Ministers residence. Although unless its a public function you cant simple trapiese in ...
There is a wetlands park, and a few other parks within the perimeters of the Putra Jaya FT - and although some of the facilities are lacking for such a high tech up-mart address, things are slowly but surely improving.
I used to work closeby in Cyberjaya - to so called Internet City of Malaysia - we are still working on this .... and now my IT work takes me to Putra Jaya often to visit the government clients - this is where e-Govt is in full rollout as we move towards our slow and steady climb to developed nation.
The housing for the government servants is all neat and well arranged. The cabinet ministers homes are quite a sight ... everything in PutraJaya speaks of a sense of self indulgence - not in a bad way but to the average Malaysian it is a bit too much or as we say it here terover-over ...
Just take an evening drive and look at the roadlight - WOW even my house lights arent as fancy ... the beautiful bridges across the man made lakes lit with a gezillion lights makes Putra Jaya very picturesque for the visitor who can literally go camera click crazy.
For a little shopping there is Alamanda (it could be the flower or the literal translation of Alam Anda from Malay to English is Your World hmmmm) the restaurants are pretty good, the outlets are varied and its nice to shop there unlike the forever packed malls further in the city of KL. Theres a CARREFOUR hypermart and foodcourts and clothes and nicknacks ... so its a nice pit stop.
My advice it spend a whole day taking in the gigantic government buildings, the bridges, the lights, the lakes the parks ... do a little shopping and wait till the sunsets to see Putra Jaya light up and the mesmerise you ... Im Malaysian and I get to see this sight often enough but everytime I see the lights up in Putra Jaya, my heart skips a beat, .... in all its garish opulence there is a quiet sense of romanticism in the way the lights bounce of the shimmering lakes.
Come see my countries finest display of architecture and design ... its worth your while - trust me :)
