Interview with Ba-Ba black sheep
Me : Ba-Ba black sheep, what do you feel about this movie?
Ba-Ba B.S. (pun intended) : I was really touched by the movie since finally Bollywood has started producing movies in our language. It’s a great effort considering it’s the first time a movie has been made in the ’’Ba-Ba’’ language.
Me : Can you tell us something about the movie?
Ba-Ba B.S. : It’s a pleasure. The script writer has kept the story very simple. I think he is aware that our community lacks brains. The story is about a village boy Sunder(Govinda) who falls in love with a rich American Desi girl Payal(Rani) but he can’t speak to her since she thinks he is dumb.
Me : So by opening his mouth he will clear all her doubts?
Ba-Ba B.S. : No, No Dumbo. Dumb as in he cannot speak.
Me : Oh , I am sorry. But why in the name of God, will she think he is dumb?
Ba-Ba B.S. : Good Question. You see , once our heroine , Payal, is looking for some directions to an address and she asks directions from a lady who is deaf and dumb. So our hero Sunder spots the lady giving directions to the Payal using sign language. So he thinks that Payal is deaf and dumb.
Me : Wait ! You have me confused. Right now you said that Payal thinks Sunder cannot speak now you are saying it’s the other way round.
Ba - Ba B.S : You see. It’s a mix up where initially both of them think that the other person is deaf and dumb.
Me: But why can’t Sunder assume that the lady who was giving directions was deaf and dumb?
Ba-Ba B.S.: Because the script writer is more intelligent than you are and it’s the perfectly logical thing to do. All my friends who watched it thought the same. You humans just don’t have the sixth sense we have . ’’Common Sense’’. I think the writer has it. He has shown a touch of brilliance.
Me : I wish I was deaf and dumb.
Ba-Ba B.S. : Even then you will understand the whole movie. This is what makes the movie special. The movie is so good that even dumb people can understand it and ofcourse, the dialogue delivery and the music is so loud that even deaf could hear it.
Me : Ok. Now can we get on the with story?
Ba-Ba B.S. : So after couple of scenes, our poor boy Sunder finds out that Payal can hear and speak and Payal finds out that Sunder can hear. But Payal continues to think that he is dumb because Sunder doesn’t want her to find out that he can speak. He thinks she sympathizes with him only because he is dumb so he continues to be so.
Me : I am sure he didn’t have to put much effort into it.
Ba-Ba B.S. : Please stop being sarcastic. It takes lot of effort to be dumb and this is where Govinda’s brilliant performance comes in. He starts talking in our language. Notice how he can roll his tongue and still say ’’Pyar’’ in our language.
Me : Are there any other characters I should look out for in the movie?
Ba-Ba B.S. : Ofcourse. Sunder has three friends who don’t treat him nice initially but after finding out that his mom used to make toys from clay they start treating him with respect. Then there is Paresh Chaval (Johny Lever) who paints billboards along with our hero Sunder. Oh! I forgot to mention Sunder is a painter and he gets a job to paint all those banners you see on Juhu. Someday one of us will achieve the same heights that Sunder achieves in the movie. We will win the world with our soft spoken ’’Ba-Ba’’ language. Coming back to characters, Om Puri puts in a brilliant performance as a doctor. I am so glad he decided to play this honorable role.
Me : Om Puri? Doesn’t he have better things to do? Tell me what happens next?
Ba-Ba B.S. : Ofcourse Payal hates lies. Every self respecting sheep in the world does. I do too. So Sunder can’t tell her that he can speak , because then he will lose her. You see sympathy has been replaced by Love now.
Me : Can you please get on with the story ? We got your point.
Ba-Ba B.S. : What do you mean get on with the story? This is the whole story. There is a big twist in the plot in the end but you have to watch it to believe it. You humans will never understand the depth of the movie. Mr. Writer you are the only person who has some senses and I feel like you are one of us.
Me : Ok. Can you tell us something about the technical aspects like direction, cinematography?
Ba-Ba B.S. : I am not that particular about technical details, so I didn’t bother much. But I should say that the movie has a vintage touch to it. It looks old and that’s one more reason I liked the movie. I like old movies. The direction is excellent. The director has extracted such brilliant performances from everyone that all of them deserve an ’’as-s-car’’.
Me : Do you think after hearing all this I will watch the movie?
Ba-Ba B.S. : Ofcourse, you will. If you are as dumb as we are and have as much common sense as we do you will definitely watch it.
