Take Me Down Under, Qantas!

Qantas is the ONLY airline you should ever consider if you are traveling to Australia! Not only are the flight attendants friendly and attentive, but Qantas continues to have one of the best safety records in the world and is recognized as one of the leading long distance airlines. Qantas will be celebrating its 91st birthday this year, having been founded in the outback of Queensland in 1920. (This makes them the oldest airline in the English-speaking world and the second oldest airline in the world!)

I’d like to be able to describe more of my actual flying experience with Qantas, but to tell you the truth, morning sickness was my worst enemy during the trip. My husband enjoyed the food and the online movie (I think it was ’’The Baker Boys’’), but he got a little annoyed having to pass so many air sickness bags to me! I do remember there must have been plenty of room because I was able to put the armrests down on a couple of seats and stretch out to sleep.

Our itinerary included a short stop in Honolulu, and then a week on the island of Fiji to relax before completing our travel to Sydney and Melbourne. Take-offs and landings were executed flawlessly and the extra attention I received (being 3-1/2 months pregnant) was much appreciated.

A few details:

Qantas currently serves 37 countries including Asia and the Pacific, Europe, the Americas, and Africa with 124 distinct destinations. It is interesting to note that the Qantas Frequent Flyer Program is the largest Australian-based airline loyalty program.

The program works much the same as other frequent flyer programs, allowing members to accumulate points mainly through flying with Qantas. Members also have the opportunity to collect points through 20 other frequent flyer international and domestic airline partners. Points are awarded according to the class of travel and miles (kilometres) flown. They may also be accumulated through other qualifying transactions such as car rentals, credit card loyalty programs, and selected banks.

Most recognizable is the silhouette of a white kangaroo against a bold red triangle - that’s Qantas Airways!
