Utterly Butterly Delicious!
Any number of words that follow will only be repetitive of these three. They sum up my experience with the food at Queens.
Located in the center of Church Street (off Brigade Road, Bangalore) is a tiny little joint called Queens. Infact it is so tiny that the footpath outside serves as a waiting area for maybe a few dozen (if not hundred) people on any given evening. The total area of the restaurant is not more than 900 to 1000 sq.feet. Cosy little tables and chairs accomodate small groups of 2 to 4 people (ofcourse they combine a few tables for larger groups). Its mud texture walls and log false ceiling give it the look of a typical Punjabi village home.
Now no prizes for guessing what makes this tiny little place the Queen of Church Street! The best Punjabi food south of Karol Baugh and Excellent Service!
Tandoori, Kebab, Biryani, Fresh Greens, Dal, Accompaniments.... all cooked to perfection! You can close your eyes, point to any dish on the menu and you will not be disappointed. Nargisi Kofta, Paneer Bhurji and Rogan Josh are personal favourites and highly recommended! The Butter Nans are yummy and if you want to keep it light you can have chapatis (fulka) too! Dont miss the mixed raita and home made pickle for accompaniments. Follow it up with a hearty serving of Kesari Kheer or Gulab Jamun. Dont forget the after mint either.... burp with pleasure if you like :-))))) All this at an affordable Rs.250 to Rs.300 per couple.
The hosts - Mrs. and Mr.Anil Kumar - do a fabulous job at keeping their clients happy. Sevice is quick and prompt and although the crowd is large, waiting time is not much... 20 minutes at the most. Infact even if you enter late (after they have put up the Closed sign) you will be welcomed and served with the same warmth (I speak from personal experience on more than one occassion).
All in all.... paisa vasool! Highly recommended for hostelites / bachelors who miss home food.
If MS had more than a 5 Star rating, I would definitely give it to Queens.
