Here’s a technical accomplishment.a movie that Hindi film industry should be proud of.A movie that boasts of 3500 VFX shots, Ra-one & G-one suit enhancements, digital scenes, completely spell-binding visual effects and stunts at par with hollywood.Those who are comparing it with iron man etc. should realise that the cost of making VFX movies in hollywood movies are hundred times more than cost of Ra-one.So why compare with hollywood at all when this VFX one entertains you to the core. This is possible only due to the mammoth effort put in by srk team.And the first truly Indian VFX movie Ra-one does not disappoint even.The most shocking thing was that, western critics have praised the movie when Indian critics were busy comparing it with the heights acheived by other superior Hollywood super hero flicks.This film is laoded with many thrilling sequences, my personal favourite being the Tom Wu chasing Kareena Kapoor and her son through london’s streets just before the interval, breathtaking to say the least.For years, Srk has been heavily criticised for his characters of Raj and Rahul. It has been said that SRK can only play the romantic hero with his arms wide open and dreamy eyes.When he does try to experiment which no other Indian actor has gone before, he is ripped apart for his efforts
Some people wrote how first half was wasted since Ra-one arrived late. Bullshit. I was apalled at the sudden appearance of "intermission" sign.such grossed was I with the narration and build-up of characters in the first half.Srk, kareena, sahana goswami & above all tom woo fitted into the groove efortlessly while arman verma is the dark horse of the movie.Arman verma needs a special mention for playing video-game addict. Then some said the second half breaks into pieces. Are they out of their mind? It’s after intermission, the real fireworks begin.The second half is when the action comes hot and heavy and it is quite impressive to say the least.
Speaking of soul, I had heard one of my friends saying "If Jurassic park was made in India, then people would have expected dinosaurs should have danced". They want a "Godfather" & "Sound of music" blended together.They want masala.This movie is not the romantic genre type wherein srk sleep-walks through the film. This movie is a science fiction and far from reality. Still, the movie scores whereever srk-the robot interacts with kareena and leaves a mark.There is definite palpable chemistry between them. Who says the movie is without soul. You have to watch arman varma’s eyes full of tears during G-one being destroyed to believe the father-son relationship the movie was able to build in.
Talking about plagiarism, even James Cameron’s classic "Avatar" was also blamed to be inspired from Anderson’s.The fact that 3 Idiots is entirely based on "Five Point Someone" is well-known by now.And very conveniently We manage to forget that a brawny superhero’s burgeoning muscles tear off his shirt are inspired by "the Incredible Hulk".Why this unfair comparison of Ra-one with Terminator 2 then? Let Terminator 2 remain as classic as ever.
Coming to vulgarity, you have to watch "delhi belly" which clearly redefined vulgarity in hindi cinema.A 15 second mention of mis-spelled "kuncham kuncham" is by no means vulgar and can be easily shrugged off.Speaking of airport gay scene, an entire film dostana was dedicated to the subject.Then there were three "lee" sisters.These are in fact LOL moments but only if you have a sportive sense of humour.
The movie should be appreciated for the entertainment it provides, and for innovation, a relaxing break from typical underworld or boy chase girl movies. Ra-one certainly lives up to hype and creates a benchmark for indian cinema.
