Yesterday, I went and watched the movie with my wife. Starting from the first scene it had such a serious grip on my attention that time flew by before the movie broke for HALF-TIME. Bio breaks were taken and we settled for the rest of the film. The remaining portion was equally enthralling though some portions were a little overly-dramatic. I could understand that the stories of Mahabharata and God Father by Mario Puzo were interleaved into making the story of this film. I could easily relate to these two stories. An added advantage is if you had read God Father before hand you could so easliy make out how Arjun Rampal’s character refletcts Sony Corleone’s in Mario Puzo’s epic novel, and soforth. My observations on the film are -
Ranvir Kapoor was superb with his subdued and chilled anger and intelligent looks that the character demanded. It is heartening to see how he is coming out and establishing himself as a good actor. He is definitely the one to look for in the current lot of modern stars.
Nana patekar was in a changed role and not his usual maddening self where he shouts and stammers and behaves an abnormal being. Here he was composed, thoughtful, and played a role which always remains cool and plays the dice of politics with brain and not with emotion. He played it superbly.
Naseeruddin Shah is always a class act, and he is one of those actors I revere and worship. Flashback the movie- Wednesday which he dragged almost single handedly into an amazing movie. Here he acted only for a short period of time and leaves and everlasting impression of his brilliance.
I felt Manoj Bajpayee’s role lacked the gravity and weight it needed.
Ajay Devgan did nothing new. His heavy personality was ideal for the role he played and it was so easy for him. We have seen this same intensity in earlier movies of Lajja, Deevangee and so forth. So nothing new.
Other actors were good.
At the end of the day, I can say, its a movie worth paying for to watch. The direction is superb and the way things were arranged for shooting the film to give it an effect of being realistic was good.
Please watch it and enjoy. You will definitely love it.
