Mani Ratnam has once again proved to be spineless particularly in the climax- like he has done in the script of Iruvar, Bombay n Thalapathi. If he is so worried about the backlash it may create, he may well stop directing films instead of cooking up messy ones like this. The Movie "Raavan, which I saw today was of course good in parts mainly due to the able show put up by the cast- particularly AB and Ash. Its a pity that a genius like Govinda has not only been wasted but also insulted in the credits by listing his name after AB n Ash.Usually the Music lets down a movie/director but Mani Ratnam who had till now a reputation of filming the song sequences in a high-tech cum low cost manner has miserably failed in this front too except for one song-thok de killi- and thus has let down AR Rahman, whose music has been at the top of the charts since the release of the music album.Pl Dont think iam against Mani ratnam- am not- but I dont feel the movie should be judged by the past works of the great master but by his current work.
The movie of course has its own strengths like extraordinary photography by the duo of santosh sivan and mankandan- kudos to them for such a beautiful work- I just felt as though iam actually in the forests. The action director needs to be praised too- particularly for the bridge fight scene- the dialogues are good and decent and pleasently audible too- a rare for a maniratnam movie.
The confusion in the mind of the Director seems - whom to be projected as the real hero- Dev r Beera- and also whether to allow the heroine to elope with the proverbialvillain and here surfaces the spineless director who couldnt take a bold decision and in turn confuses the viewer about the intention of the heroine(whether she unknowingly becomes a pawn in the hands of his doubting hubby or she really goes to meet Beera to live with him)-the last 10 mts of the movie thus does gr8 disservice to the basic characters created from the begining. Also the reason as to why Beera had become an outlaw has not been fully established.
