Why I went to watch this movie?
In Spiderman series there is a dialogue, "Great Power comes with great responsibility". It seems our Indian critics had forgotten it. Last week, they gave Four stars to Kurbaan and tried there best to give a good opening to it to make it hit. However, it bombed and it deserve to be bombed. After reading all positive reviews like "Best Movie of 2009" etc. I decided to watch it and regretted later. For Radio, they all have thrashed it. Radios music is one of the best of 2009 but critics never acknowledged and gave 3 or 4 stars to Pathetic BLUE soundtrack just because it has AR Rehman tag. These critics also belong to same society and no wonder they are hypocrites.
Ok, Lets go back to Radio.
Story
Its a Love triangle(not exactly). Like previous line, our lead pair of Himesh(RJ Vivan) and Sonal(Pooja) is confused. They divorced recently. Pooja was keen to be separated because of compatibility issue, even though Vivan wanted to give it a try. Later, Shanaya came into Vivans life. Pooja is confused whether she wants to go back to Vivan. Vivan is confused about her feelings for Shanaya and even Pooja. Shanaya started loving Vivan.
In between there is a forced track of Shanayas Paranjabi family and Jhandulal Tyagi to provide some comic relief.
PLUSES
The biggest plus is definately the music. Each song is soothing and hearing it in Multiplex is treat to ears. Too many songs in narrative but fortunately director decides not to take a complete song.
Another plus point for me is characterization of lead pair. They are confused souls. In real life, even we are confused(ok, at least I am a confused one). So, when Pooja said in the movie she messed up everything, or Vivan took his time to acknowledge his feelings, it is believable.
Ishaan Trivedi looks a promising director. He did an okey job with whatever resources he has.
Both Sonal and Shehnaz look eye-candy. Sonal has such a beautiful face and Shehnaz looks like Preity Zinta junior.
Himesh. what to say? He has this "never-say-die" attitude, has given very good music, looks natural in some scenes and looks completely out-of-place whenever he tries too hard to act(read impress).
MINUSES
Again, faulty script ruined a good concept. Makers decided to take non-linear narrative and it harms the flow of the movie in Pre-interval portion. Is director trying to make Memento or what?
Himesh looks completely laughable in some scenes when he tries too hard to make an impact. He needs to loosen himself, not trying too hard to make an impression.
Humor is forced. One can easily make out that Paresh Rawals cameo has been added last minute to provide some comic relief. If they would have given more thought to his character during the scripting phase, the movie could have been more entertaining.
Stiff competition from Paa(children want to see Auro and their parents have to oblige) and DDD(another brainless entertainer, yet to see it).
Anti-HR factor.
My View:
In todays world, multiple relationship or jumping from one relationship to other is quite common. Love has become even more confusing. If you ask any college student and he/she will confirm that such things have become very common. This movie will give them a suggestion to think before jumping to another relationship or commit yourself. So, if you are confused in your life about your feelings, do watch it(I would recommend DVD though).
This movie will be flopped. Himesh took a huge risk by targetting only youth. His fan-following is mostly from rural area and they will stay away from this movie. Family audience will go for Paa and De dhana dhan. Youngsters will stay away because of bad reviews. Next time, if Himesh wants to continue his acting adventure, he needs a full-proof script. Only good music cant save the movie. He can keep Abhishek Bachchan and Saif Ali Khan(Pre-DCH) in his mind.
Commerically, entire film industry should take this movie as a case study. Businessmen like Himesh and Rajat Kapoor(Bhejafry, Mithya, Dasvidaniya) should be consultant. They make movies at such a low price, recover the money and are commercially successful. Biggies like London Dreams(failed to recover cost), Blue(100 crore figure is manipulative, big loss), All the Best(arguably profit-making movie) etc. are enough signs to raise an alarm. Only GOD can help distributors of film like Tashan, Kambakht Ishq, Hadippa etc.
In the end, Shanaya asked Vivan why he didnt confess his feelings earlier; Vivan replied that he didnt want to come with beggage. Today, particularly teenagers start their next relationship before they are over from the previous one. Hence, they cant give their 100% and cant be completely happy. If you are not happy, you cant make others happy.
GOD bless all,
