Story: Raees is an alcohol smuggler in Gujrat. He establishes a alcohol smuggling empire there. ACP Majumdar is the inspector assigned to this case and gets obsessed with putting Raees behind the bars. Raees is finally caught and killed by encounter by ACP Majumdar.
Review: Its very similar to the 70s blockbuster where the hero is introduced in the middle of an action and his dialogues are meant to potray the heros manliness and an item song to break the tension.
SRK plays the lead charactet of goon with spectacles. Everybody calles him battery and he hates that. He starts his criminal career with minor pnzi schemes but soon he creates an empire of his own and becomes the top alcohol snuggler in Gujrat. When ACP Majumdar( played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui) gets posted in his area Raees meets his match. ACP is hellbent on putting Raees behind bars. Meanwhile Raees form alliances with the politicians to grow his business without any opposition from anyone. Though sometime later in the movie Raees becomes a thorn in their path which eventually leads to his downfall.
The very beautiful Mahira Khan is playing Raeess love interest in the movie. She is seen doing some pretty good acting. Though the trios acting( srk, mahira and nawazuddin) acting could not hide the fact that the movie is a bit boring to watch after the first half, is a bit long and seems entirely on the shoulders of SRK.
SRK has never looked better with his entry scenes to the dialogues. Although Nawazuddin steps up sometimes with his great acting, most of the time SRK is seen carrying the film. Mahira Khan should have been limited to the songs and a few emotional scenes. Although her acting is good but her character seems a bit disconnected.
The direction of the movie is fine, a bit blanch but fine.
The songs are a great relief and their timing is great.
The movie is a bit long considering the story but if you are a SRK fan then go for it. Rest go and watch Kabil instead.
