A successful sequel!!

After a long time, I found a Hindi film trailer interesting enough to watch it on theatres. The film being Raj Kumar Gupta’s RAID 2 starring Ajay Devgan again as the revenue officer Amay Patnaik in this sequel of the hit and acclaimed RAID(2018) by the same team. The film starts from where part 1 finishes and Tauji(Saurabh Shukla) is behind bars for the tax case and then Patnaik moves to Rajasthan and then Bhoj(maybe reference to Bhuj-though shooting took place in Lucknow and other parts of Uttar Pradesh and Mumbai) as Revenue commissioner. Here he finds his next suspect, the powerful politician with social worker image Dada Bhai(Ritesh Deshmukh). In Hindi films few films have been made on the work of income tax officers and RAID was a pioneer amongst it. Gupta, Devgan and others take the franchise further and try to make it bigger than part 1 and also retains the original’s flavor. The story, screenplay is interesting and there are twists and turns which makes the sequel move like a thriller rather than a comforting pace of part 1. The first part was more realistic in its approach and was inspired by a real case, but the sequel does have many outlandish and unrealistic instances but still are enjoyable. The falling of black money reminds one of RAID 1 as well as Rajnikanth’s Shivaji and Amitabh’s Yaarana. There are few negative points in part 2 as compared to part 1- the main being 2 item songs thrusted unnecessarily. In contrast the "Paisa Yeh paisa" from Karz fits the film perfectly. The film also has more characters than prequel which slightly reduce intensity. The climax also looks bit dramatic and over simplified. However, these minor points apart RAID 2 stand tall as an entertaining and interesting film at a time when a good Hindi film is badly waited. Ajay Devgan is a master in such roles and here also he fully delivers an honest performance. After Golmaal, Singham and Drishyam, Ajay succeeds in making RAID2 a worthy follow up and another appreciated franchise. Ritesh Deshmukh as the baddie shines in his role and Saurabh Shukla leaves his mettle in whatever scenes he is. Vani Kapoor replaces Ilana but somehow isn’t convincing in her part. The film also has good performances from all seasoned artists-Supriya Pathak, Rajat Kapoor, Yashpal Sharma, Brijendra Kalra, Amit Sial and Govind Namdeo. Overall, RAID 2 is a good part 2 which is being enjoyed by family audience and also gives a message. It will surely take the RAID franchise forward!
