Tom Clancy needs no introduction. Even if you havent read any of his books there is no way you can enter a book-store and not spot even one of his titles staring boldly at your face unless youre blind or in love(same thing :-) )
Reading a Tom Clancy book is like having a short term course in fire arms, explosives, surveillance and the lot. To be honest Ive read only his Rainbow Six which is about an international group of commandos based in London to fight terrorists anywhere in the world.
But the plot is thicker than that. Someone somewhere wants to do something that doesnt look good for a lot of people (the whole human race that is)and its upto Rainbow Six to uncover his crazy but viable plan and put an end to it. I especially liked the ending instead of killing the bad guys the protagonist gives them what they really want in an ironic way.
I havent read any of his other books but I believe that most of them would really be worth the effort.
