The Gift of Magi?????????

I went to watch the movie with a lot of expectations, the name Rituporno Ghosh is enough to attract people with interest in Sensible Cinema.

But I have to say that Raincoat would have been better as a telefilm , what with four - five characters and a very Chameli-ish set up.

Nothing seemed original in the movie, except for the music.

The credits say inspired by O Henry , But I d say that ppl making Maqbool were honest enough to admit it was an indianised version of Macbeth , As that s wat the movie is an indianised version of the Gift of Magi.

Two lovers meet after a gap of six yrs and bluff through out the movie about their high status in life, and then each try to help the other like - Della and James Dillingham Young in O Henry s story.

Had this movie been made as a play , theatre lovers would have had a treat , but as a feature film it just fails.

All the actors - Aish , Ajay , Annu Kapoor and Mouli Ganguli have done a very good job.

The Best part of the movie is its music ,

The way Subha Mudgal s voice moulds in with the rainy afternoon and the very grey - sad mood of the setting is just suberb.

Watch this movie if you liked Chameli ,

Don’t if you are expecting an original idea.
