Insanity rediscovered

This is my third review on bikes. This time it’s the turn of legendry Yamaha RD350.If anybody is wondering why I choose the title “insanity rediscovered” it’s simply because I’m talking about the most powerful bike on Indian roads. Yes folks, u got to have that insanity in your blood to enjoy a 36Bhp monster.

Let’s go through specifications first. RD 350 produces 36 horses in a two-stroke TWIN cylinder 350cc engine(technically 36 BHp on a two stroke machine is equal to 72 on a four stroke one) and that’s not all, this bike has 6 gears and 2 carburetors.

A new rider will find his heart in his mouth within seconds of riding an RD since she is bloody fast. She does 0 to 60kph in 3 seconds, 0 to 100 in 9 secs and 0 to 150 in 15 secs with a top whack of 190kmph(does the figures sounds like a low end super car’s performance?)

If you are a true bike lover and hadn’t ridden RD yet, then you are missing something very much important in your life. The present performance bikes of likes of pulsar cbz, apache are not contenders to challenge RD.Even a 30 year old RD will smoke ahead of a new karizma within a few seconds. The most important thing I like about this machine is it’s exhaust sound.

Handling an RD is not a very difficult task, it’s just a matter of time you get used to the bike and start smoking its tyre. Rider comfort is good too. She is a perfect for a guy who likes to carve ahead of every traffic with that sweet exhaust note and on highways too she rules.

Now, let’s come to the other side of the coin. Maintenance of an RD350 is not an easy task. Firsty, the parts are very rare and it’s too costly and also you got to have a petrol tank of your own if you are only using this vehicle for daily use. She delivers only 15kmpl.There are not enough trained mechanics available who can handle its engine.

One can easily find a second hand RD 350 for 15k.If you really amongst those guys who want to discover insanity on two wheelers, then go and get an RD immediately and don’t care a damn about stuffs like fuel efficiency, unavailability of parts etc.
