My Trip To Rameshwaram

A lovely place on the sea shore, Rameshwaram Temple is often described  as the Kashi or Varanasi of South India. I happened to visit this place  along with the elders of my family. We went to Rameshwaram from Madurai  and I loved the drive. While on our way as we were entering to  Rameshwaram, we halted on the long bridge. Oh! What a awesome view it  was. The colorful boats by the sides of the sea were looking gorgeous.  After that we halted again in the beach and got refreshed.

We took rest on the hotel and proceeded towards the famous Rameshwaram temple. Let me give a brief

history  of the place. It is said that Lord Rama worshiped God Shiva here on his  way back Lanka. The deity here are the 12 Jyotirlingas. The attractions  we visited here are:

Rameshwaram Temple: https://pilgrimage-india.com/south-india-pilgrimage/rameshwaram.html

This  is also called as Ramnathswamy temple and was built on 17th century. It  is located near the sea on the eastern side of the island. I was really  amazed to see the gigantic structure of the temple. There are 54 metre  tall gopuram (gate-tower), 1220 metres of artistic corridor and the  flamboyant columns undoubtedly render fame to temple.

There are 22  sacred wells in the temple and there is a saying that if you pour water  upon yourself from this well you will live in health and prosperity. I  really enjoyed the task of visiting all the wells. The amazing fact is  that all those wells taste different. The beauty of the temple is  indescribable. The eye catchy architecture of the temple attains praise  from all.

Gandamadana Parvat:

I loved the  place Gandamadana Parvat very much. It is on the highest point on the  island at 2 km from Rameshwaram. The imprint of Lord Rama’s feet on a  wheel is kept in this shrine. The over all atmosphere of the place is  very pleasant. The view of whole Ramashwaram from this place is very  beautiful.

Dhanushkodi:

Another interesting  place that we visited is Dhanushkodi. The place is named after Ram’s  bow. We basically went this place to see the bridge that is made buy  Hanuman to connect Lanka. Dhanushkodi was completely destroyed by the  cyclones of 1964, so we could not take the full pleasure of the place.

It was really a memorable tour full of fun, belief, excitement and faith. Visit to such historical places, like Rameshwaram Temple justify the existence of God.
