Rang De Basanti
Watched the new film Rang De Basanti last week in Gurgaon. Frankly speaking, I had gone there thinking that this one was going to be Dil Chahta Hai- Part II....but was pleasantly surprised to see that the film had a new concept and presented the ideas in a fresh manner. Aamir Khan looked convincing in the role of a college student( lets not talk about his REAL age!) though the punjabi he spoke was nothing to write home about.Atul Kulkarni was the dark horse of the storyline and his subdued yet intense acting was a visual treat! One amusing factor in the films storyline was that the film on Indian freedom fighters was being made by a foreigner.....how long do we Indians need to wake up to the fact that its WE who need to make films or write books on our freedom fighters..............
The story revolved aroung a bunch of carefree youngsters who unwillingly agree to play the roles of Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekhar Azad and their contemporaries in a documentary and get inspired by the patriotism of these characters so much so that later on they cannot withstand any kind of unfairness and corruption in the present government. When one of their friends, an airforce pilot dies due to a faulty machines in the aircraft....the corrupt minister gets away during the inquisition by putting the blame on the dead pilots inability to fly the aircraft.
The bunch of youngsters....his friends are traumatised such that they end up killing the minister and then own up their crime to the country on radio.
The movie carries a consistent pace and makes for enjoyable viewing ....but the end is a bit too dramatic.....the ending of the movie needs to be worked upon given the fact the the director has made such a poignant film.
Overall, a good movie and three cheers to the makers...may this trend of meaningful cinema carry on!
