The opening scenes of the movie show a band of owls making a conversation with the audience- they tell them that they’re about to narrate the story of a chameleon who meets a tragic end. This itself sets the mood of the movie; it is dark. This, and the visually unattractive characters sets "Rango" apart from the stereotypical animated movies which have very appealing characters and are visually pleasing.
But, with a strong storyline, embedded with deep meaningful dialogues, brilliant animation (with a special mention for the lighting department), and unique take on the wild west, the movie does not require its protagonist to be visually appealing !
The movie follows transformative journey of a domesticated chameleon who rises to the occasion and relieves the town of "Dirt" of its water problems. Through the eyes of the chameleon, the audience is given a peek into a different kind of west- the kind we dont usually get to see in a typical Cint Eastwood movie. The attention to detail on each and every character of the movie is breath taking.
A beautiful setting, and well crafted characters, make Rango a must for movie-buffs for this is one movie, the kinds of which will not be seen for a long time..
