We planned our trip to Matheran well in advance. Our trip started on 6th April’07 and we returned back on 8th April’07.
I did the booking for Rangoli Retreat from Mumbai. Before booking Rangoli I researched a fair bit for knowing about Matheran and the type of Hotels and Resorts availale for accomodations.
I visited several Internet Sites and found few good hotels and resorts like Rangoli, Regal Hotel, Richie Rich Resort and Kumar Plaza. All good enough for staying. The Resorts are on the costlier side then the hotels. If you intend to go for a Resort, then go for the one which is nearest to the main market, like Richie Rich or Kumar Plaza. The others are far away from the market place and it would take time to reach the market, as there is lot of walking required.
Two of the hotels that I preferred were Rangoli and The Regal Hotel. Both serving delicious food, with good affordable rooms and good room service. I am a kind of person who loves good hospitality and service. Well we pay for that , don;’t we.
I got the rates for these two hotels by calling their respective booking offices in Mumbai. For Rangoli, I got good reviews by word of mouth from few friends who are frequent visitors to Matheran.
I decided to book Rangoli Retreat hotel from Mumbai. This one is exactly opposite to Matheran Station, the last stop for the mini train. The
Hotel is 3 Star with swimming pool and garden. The Stay was a pleasant
one. I had booked a Non-AC Super Delux room. The cost for a couple is Rs.3200/- for two days stay, including of morning breakfast , lunch, evening tea and Dinner. 24 hrs Water supply and unlimited breakfast and
food. I would strongly recommend this hotel for couples. The hotel is
close to market area and also opp to the station. The restaurant of the
hotel serves Gujarathi thali and in the evening it is either Punjabi or
Chinese.
