This seems to be a favorite topic for all.
This review is based on my opinion and the way I rate a review. I am sorry if I hurt anyones feelings, in which case you are most welcome to let me know either through comments or M2M.
Here are three things I look into when I rate.
1. The object of the review.
what is the writer is reviewing on?
Is it a product or giving his opinion on something( Iraq was seems to be the current hot topic).
Is it the general thoughts?
or
Is it the tips and tricks stuff?
The object really matters to me on the grand scale.
I see the topic the writer is writing about and I know what to expect. What I should be looking for.
a. General thoughts / Opinions / tips
If its a topic like war on Iraq, I look forward to something like 5 to 10 reasons as to why the write agrees or disagrees to whats going on.
If its Tips on physical fitness, you can expect anywhere from 10 to 50 tips.
you get the idea right.
Overall I rate according to what I expect.
b. Products / services / Movies * *
If a writer recommends / NOT recommends a product, I look forward for just two or three reasons for his recommendation. Valid reasons.
Usually the reviews on the products the person has used or the movies seen.
If its the movies then the reason given should be a valid one. like if it was too boring, or the plot was too thin or the cast performance wasnt up to the mark.
If its a product, then it could be the quality, or the customer support that matter.
The whole point is, Is the person Justified in recommending or not recommending the product?
2. Content
Content includes the presentation, the flair and use of the words and sentences which further emphasis on the opinion. If a person gives three reasons or instances in just 5 to 10 lines with an impressive use of words and sentences my mouse automatically goes to HR.
For me it is not the quantity that matters. I value the Quality.
3. Trust list
Let me be very honest about it. I trust a writer, there is no doubt about it that I give a HR. Even if I may not read the content entirely before rating it.
Today for example: Karan wrote a review on Gayathri Mantra. I rated it first and when I found the time I read it completely and added my comments.
The very reason the writer is in my trust list is because I like the writers review. I like the writers style and presentation. I like the point of view. I validate their judgment.
How do I give a HR / R / SR / NR
Please understand this, when I rate, I rate the writers effort, not the opinion. The writer may have an opinion contradicting mine. But at the same time the writers could be right from their perspectives and speaking of honesty here is a confession I must make.
I have given a NR for Amritas Opinion on Bangalore. just because I didnt agree with her( and the truth shall set you free). I still feel bad about it.
I have seen many a great review getting a SR or a NR just because the reader didnt agree with. If there is a reason you give anything less than R for a review that deserves a HR, please make sure you justify that in COMMENTS. If I wrote a review, and every one gave me a HR and one person gives me NR or SR, I would like to know, where have I gone wrong to deserve this.
I rate. Not because I want to or not because I have to. It is my way of giving credits.
If its a HR or R its My way of saying Good work, Keep it up.
If I give a SR, its my way of saying, good but you could do better.
If I give a NR, which I rarely give, its because I see something like this
1.
Saurav ganguly you are a great captain, may you lead the Indian team long enough.
