Rayban - Aviator - Is it losing its Touch ???

Before getting into my experience with RayBan just want to inform everyone that I have been an ardent fan of RayBan and especially the model Aviator. Apart from the model Aviator I had used other models in RayBan too like Cutters RB2046, Predator RB2030, Wayfarer RB2040...though everything has been good...but now I have considerable doubts in the quality of the product and the brand " Is RayBan going towards the famous proverb like "All good things should come to an end...".

Lets get in...This is Farooq Renumanu from Hyderabad and I have a set of complaints against the RayBan product modeled Aviator with the SKU number 3121980 and the product code RB - 3025L2823. I purchased it on 22-05-2009 with price tag of 3390 from Shoppers Stop at GVK Mall, Banjara Hills. I love my RayBan and especially the model of the eye-gear that I purchased i.e. Aviator. My happiness towards it did not withstand a long time as I had to face few of the problems which not only put me into dilemma about the quality of the product but also the brand ’RayBan’ itself.

However since the product was with in warranty I took my aviator and approached the dealer from where I purchased it. Though the dealer and the support person who were there were patient enough to listen to my problems but were not able to help me much. They intern let me speak to the manager at Shoppers Stop who handled the wing for eye-gear (Since Shoppers Stop is a well known brand so they not only had RayBan but also the other brands of eye-gear). When I explained him the problem and told him the kind of issues that I am facing with it he just assured me that he would speak to the RayBan management and the due time for it would be 30 to 45 days as they have to send the product to Rajasthan for any kind of changes. Are u kidding...sending it to Rajasthan...45 days to two months...Popular model like RayBan....has to do with this...thats bad...I was totally disappointed with the kind of response as I explained them that I use my eye-gear every day and I really need it almost all the time, for which their response was "we do understand but we are helpless". The problems that I had with the product is as follows.

  1. Color faded below the lenses i.e on the frame.

  2. Scratches on lenses.

  3. Nose Pads to be checked as they are not comfortably sitting in which interim lets in lots of dust.

  4. Problem in visibility i.e. When I expose myself to Sun and then getback to the room conditions I could clearly see a ray of shadow which basically creates problematic in vision.

Though I had explained these problems to them but couldn’t get much of it. However I had get back to the management of Shoppers Stop with the last problem i.e "4" with in a month itself of purchase where in they just told me that all the RayBan’s are made in that way...and it appears the same for everyone...i was totally embarrassed as everyone in the section...got to say the same...it was like I was a dumb fool..who had reported about this...and does not have any idea about the eye-gear that I am using...which I seriously don’t agree. Earlier to this I had an aviator(Gun Metal) from RayBan which I lost it...so I had to go for this RayBan Black Aviator...moreover I never had any problems with my earlier one.

I seriously feel there is an error in the current product and most of all I would ask the authorities and the management of RayBan and Shoppers Stop to look into the grievance that I am facing with this product. I would recommend them to put themselves in my shoes and understand the problem also it would be really great if they could rectify it ASAP.

Nevertheless I had used other brands like Polaroid, Fast Track, Gucci and Reebok though there were few problems...but I would say they were manageable and were rectified...however I don’t want to compare RayBan with it as it has its own class...i mean its different...it has its won style and image.

In the end I would like to convey one thing the current consumer market where you have new brands coming up everyday....attractive prices showing up....great discounts....new technologys to look up and experience....in such conditons if you want to retain yourself and stand apart from everyone then its always important to be "GOOD WITH YOUR BASICS". I myself work in the support field and for me customer is like GOD and if don’t win the customers confidence and heart..and have left a mixed experience for him...at the end of the day I might think that I just lost one customer....but what really to think is the kind of feeling that you have left to the customer....the same customer might reach out for other ten customers....that ten customers to other 10 or 20 or....the count goes on....so either its good or bad kind off experience....but it spreads like FIRE....

I would simply say the authorities of RayBan to "Get Back to Basics"...Please wake up...its the time they have to realize...they are the most admired brand...and what everyone look out from them is pure quality and an astonishing service...and I am sorry to say I was hoping for to take another couple of RayBan models RB3025 002/3F and 58 but I am rethinking about the complete deal.

I hope they hear it and rectify the same....thank you.

Regards,

Farooq Renumanu.
