Knowing how much I like to read, many years ago, my Mom gave me a one years subscription to Readers Digest.
At first, I picked out a few things I enjoyed but left most of the magazine unread. Days later, I decided to read a few things I at first neglected. Then I read more. Before I realized what happened, the book was finished.
That was about 12 years ago and each year, for Christmas, my Mom renews my subscription. It is one of the best gifts Ive ever gotten.
In addition to the humorous side of the book, Humor In Uniform, All in a days Work, etc, there are many excellent true stories about trials people encountered in their lives - makes mine seem dull in comparison.
The Heroes of Today is a wonderful tribute to those who go out of their ways to help others.
Thats Outrageous is excellent to show you that youre not alone in seeing something that can shock and horrify you. This section shows you just how badly some laws need changing.
Today in Medicine is both interesting and informative. Ive learned a lot by reading that section.
All in all, this book is written mostly BY the readers - ergo, Readers Digest but the entire contents are FOR the people - all people!
Its an excellent book that I enjoy completely - in fact, I read the entire magazine from cover to cover usually in two days. Once I begin, I just cant put it down. Its that addictive.
