Reader's Digest - forcing books on subscribers

Reader’s Digest is one of my favourite magazines. I collect them like I collect novels and other books. I have been reading it since my childhood. Probably my life has been influenced by the articles in it. I learned a lot about human anatomy through I am John’s/Jane’s body series. Increased my vocabulary. Learnt about so many things like self improvement, medicines, home remedies, wild life. It was and still is a continuous education.

Of late I have been receiving a lot of mails from Reader’s Digest. Three times than the usual stuff. Lately they sent me a parcel with four books that I never ordered. It’s like forcing it down your throat, something you don’t want to eat. I got the parcel not knowing what it contained. But then I saw the contents and a bill for 699 Rs. So now I have to either pay the bill or return the parcel on my cost. I don’t know why a reputed magazine like Reader’s Digest should be doing this.

And another thing, this years subscription to Reader’s digest was ordered through credit card on the internet. I never use my credit card on the net. So when I saw this entry in my statement, I immediately cancelled my card and got a replacement. I sent e-mails to Reader’s Digest, but there was no reply from their end. So deal cautiously with Reader’s Digest. No doubt the magazine is still one of the best, but their new marketing technique seems to be slightly bent.
