Species Part 2

After writing  on ten species that rule MouthShut, I have come up with a dozen more. Thought you would enjoy reading these, some positive, some negative creatures roaming the cyber world.(Those who haven’t read the previous ten species can read it at:

Happy reading!

  1. IGNORAMUSES

This tribe is the least harmful but nevertheless an irritating one because they don’t know what’s happening in the group and go about things like nothing has happened. Agreed, ignorance is bliss but the lack of knowledge doesn’t make them an asset to the group either.

  1. STRAIGHT FORWARD PEOPLE

This segment is good in its own way. They don’t mince words and tell it like it is. but they neither exaggerate their view nor do they state less than what they should. They measure their criticism and that’s what makes them stand out from the rest of the crowd at MS.

  1. HUNDRED PERCENT ORIGINAL

These guys are neither great reviewers nor are they great writers, but their views aren’t borrowed. They state what they felt in as many words. You should admire them for that. Sadly, the ratings they receive for their reviews aren’t that great. Many reviewers admire just this quality and give them a’Useful’ rating.

14.’WANT TO PLEASE EVERYBODY’ VARIETY

This tribe wants to please everybody not realising that you can’t please everybody. Many reviews that merit a somewhat helpful and not useful tag are given a’useful’ tag because these guys don’t like to dishearten anyone. In fact, they will even put the reviewer on their trust list to smoothen the deal.

  1. EPIC WRITERS

This tribe believes in always giving you 1000+ word reviews on just about anything under the sun. Don’t know if it believes that length determines its usefulness. Then again, you can’t blame them because there is yet another tribe that encourages them here. See next variety.

  1. LENGTH RATERS

This tribe rates reviews based on how long or short the piece is without even reading it completely. The longer the reviews, the better the rating and vice versa. They have never heard of the phrase, ’Brevity’ and its virtues.

  1. QUICKIES

This tribe believes in stating what it thinks of the product in a paragraph and moving on. Call it a quick review or a standard review, it doesn’t care much. The idea is to focus on quantity to increase visibility. However, there are some quick reviewers who do a fine job of brevity. Kudos to them.

  1. SENTIMENTAL TYPES

This tribe writes what it considers are’very useful’ reviews but when you give a rating less than that, it gets senti. So what does it do? Shoots a mail to you, sincerely suggesting that you read the rules of rating, and also promising the reviewer that they would make those little additions to the review. Their last word: Please do re-rate the review accordingly.

  1. QUIBBLERS

This tribe of reviewers is as narrow minded and uppity as they come. Even if the review is largely’very useful’ they will not hesitate to mark it’useful’ if they find even one thing missing in the review. For eg, in a review of a 50-inch plasma screen, if the reviewer has failed to mention the preferred viewing angles, he’s had it. Similarly in another review if the reviewer doesn’t mention the price of the product, he’s had it.

  1. BEEN-THERE-READ-THAT

This tribe is the most experienced(with long-term memberships on other similar sites like MS) and therefore knows a good review from bad in a jiffy. The result, no matter how good review, since this tribe has read better reviews, better writing, better viewpoints, they will never give you a’very useful’ rating. Try as hard as you might, with additions and accommodating their suggestions, they wil remain at the’useful’ stage. On the sunny side, this tribe challenges the mediocre and the above average to rise above themselves. Every site should have this tribe.

21: WELCOME BRIGADE

This tribe is most helpful to a newcomer. It prides on being the first to rate and comment on your first review. What can be more pleasing to a newcomer than a quick response to his reviews? May this tribe increase.

22: CROSS BREED

This tribe could be a combination of one or more tribes mentioned above. However, one thing needs to be said. While some tribes are downright negative, the others are all a shade of grey. So please take each variety with a pinch of pepper.

PS: IF YOU KNOW OF MANY MORE SPECIES, DO MENTION THEM IN THE COMMENTS SECTION. LETS ALL SHARE OUR EXPERIENCES.
