It is the best thing to happen to Indian telephony after
being at the mercy of the BSNL landlines. Then came
the GSM network when we had to shell out Rs 16 per min-
we had no other way but to dance to their tunes. Now it is a
different story-all the GSM service providers have been
shown their rightful places. What it means to us is getting the
right kind of mobile service that suits our requirements at the
reasonable price.
Reliance India Mobile plan I feel is best suiited for people
who talk in excess of an hour a day. The initial deposit of
Rs 15000/- seems a bit high for an average middle class
but this is got back by savings on air-time. The other
question to to be raised is about the handset-according to
some press releases -the cost of the Reliance handset is
Rs 7000. Expect it to be basic- since CDMA handsets
are more expensive than GSM handsets and
are available upto a range of Rs 30000. So if you want the
handset of your choice to go along with the Reliance service
-the initial costs would be significantly higher. The Billing
cycle is for every 3 months and rental is Rs 1200.
