All of ya Squeal (Not always in delight though)

This show is a mixed bag. I love it. I hate it. The fact is that I love all the characters on this show EXCEPT Ally McBeal.

This character Ally McBeal played by the unusually thin, bulimic and 2 dimensional Calista Flockhart is unnecessarily neurotic and pathetic. Though she plays the character well and with conviction. I am not happy with the character the writer has prepared.

All the others take it from me all the other characters are 10 times better than the leading character. Be it Richard Fish, John Cage, Ling, Elaine, Nell Porter, Rene, Georgia or Billy or Greg. And I watch the show for them or at least I used to. Until they started showing the reruns. Yup they are showing the same episodes on Star World for a royal third time.

Ally is an emotionally unstable single female lawyer whose heart was broken when her first crush married someone else. Thereafter she lusts after every eligible single male who appears on the show. She is hyper-eccentric and more often than not gets on your nerves making you want to tear your hair. She works in the firm Fish and Cage.

Richard Fish is a typical American guy who is insensitive and blunt at some occasions. John Cage is a delightfully funny and eccentric person who by his weird and outrageous behaviour on and off the court amuses you. Ling is the bitchy ice queen of the show excellently portrayed by Lucy Liu. Elaine played by Jane Krakowski is the legal secretary at the firm who thinks it is her birth right to snoop and eavesdrop and know the intricate details of everybody’s private lives. Nell is the hottest chic on the show and is a very talented lawyer. Rene the public prosecutor is Ally’s roommate. Georgia and Billy are spouses whose relationship is on and off all the time.

All said and done this is one show everyone must see for experiencing entertainment on a different level. If not for the cast then at least for the funny cases that come to the lawyers. This show is telecasted on Star World on Wednesdays at 6:30 pm and again at 10:30 pm.

As for the script and comedy beleive me David E. Kelley leaves no stone unturned. Excellent situational comedy. Very intelligent. Some nice funny and occasionally touchy scenes.

In the new season they have given the justification for Ally’s state of mind. it is her parent’s marital problems and extra marital affairs.
