If ever there was a doubt in your mind about the greatness of the Beatles-sample this
(This album can only be an INTRODUCTION to the group-the only way one can ever truly understand their greatness to get every album of theirs-no way out!
Infact the only reason for this review is the wild hope that some first time listener would listen to this one and become a raving Beatlemaniac!)
The album starts off from where 63-67 left off-
This is the grown up, mature Beatles who had quit the mop heads image, been to India, fiddled around with mysticism, experimented with drugs, tripped on LSD and realised that the burden of revealing unexplored territories in music was lying with them
The pre-67 albums, Rubber Soul and Revolver-the turning points in the Bands metamorphosis are left out-
But every other later great tune of theirs is here-
Ok!most of them!
A review of the songs in the album will be a history of popular music and culture of the 60s itself-which is beyond the scope of this reviewer
Strawberry fields forever, I am the walrus, Something, Here comes the sun, A Day in the life, Fool on the hill...
One word-if youve never heard the beatles before pal-get this!
word of warning-you might get hooked for life like a little boy in his 8th standard did a long time back -me!
