Truly touching and well-done, DragonHeart is one of my favorite movies. Why? Sean Connery as Draco, the dragon. Need more be said? I have a special love of the mythical world and all of its fantasy creatures, and dragons are no exception. Unfortunately dragons have more often than not been portrayed as mean fire-breathing beasts-such is far from the truth about Draco. Draco has a heart and spirit of gold, and trusts and honors the Knights Old Code with his life.
The story basically is about a knight of the old code, played by Dennis Quaid, who tries to keep the Old Code enforced and practiced. But when the King dies and his bratty and spoiled rotten son takes over, all that starts to change. When the young king is mortally wounded, Quaid makes a promise to Draco that if he will somehow save him, the young king will be taught the old code and continue practicing it. The young king is saved (wont say how) and the attempt to instill the old code fails. Feeling let down and betrayed, Quaid blames Draco, and swears his revenge against him by becoming a dragonslayer and vowing to slay every last dragon on Earth. Years later, he meets up with Draco again, and......
Well, if I say much more, the movie wont be worth seeing! ;o) This is a powerful, unforgettable movie...the special effects for Draco are very well done, the message is awesome, and theres even a little sarcastic humor that you just cant help but chuckle at. I could watch this over and over again! For fantasy lovers, this movie is a must! Best watched with your significant other and a box of Kleenex! Definite thumbs UP!
