I happened to be in Dubai during the month of May, short work related 10 days trip. Well Dubai is not an outdoor city, do whatever you like, but in shelter of some comfy AC. Dubai was planned to do things on Mega scale, so as to stand out unique. There was no monument that could be associated with dubai, no problems, they built a 300m tall hotel!!!!. Wanted to attract rich and the elite, they started golf tournament and horse racing which have one of the highest prize money in the world.
Dubai is a desert but no where would you be short of greenery. They have 26 desalination plants each costing 0.5 billion dollars. Thats a huge cost to maintain water supply for general use and to maintain greenery.
Since Dubai is a well planned city, almost all things are in place. The first impression you get of Dubai is the Airport and roads, and first impression is the last impression.
One would find American style consumerism all over. Huge shopping centres are found at all places in Dubai. An impulsive buyer is sure to empty his pocket in no time.
One thing I missed out in Dubai was their beaches. So may be next time if I get a chance I can plan a visit there.
Moving around in Dubai one would find majority of people from abroad. Infact only 17% of the Dubais population is native to Dubai. Indians make the major part followed by Pakistan.
Unfortunately I think Dubai is not a place where you can live for long. Dubai is not known for social life. Proper planning and in order things can sometimes get monotonous. But Dubai is definitely becoming or has become a must see place. Go to Dubai enjoy and return back.
