hi folks
Being a movie buff I thought my first article should be on the theatres I used to frequent (many of them closed).
My fond memories are seeing movies in Blumoon. This theatre used to to screen the best action movies those days(10 -15yrs back). It had the best screen and sound (no dts at that point of time).
Plaza --all the college flicks were screened. In spite of its rickety appearance all the cool college guys and girls used to hang out plaza.
Bludiamond --the only thing I remember was it was a mini theatre and screened English movies which no one saw. the notable exception was back to the future which ran for a year over there.
Rex --was a class apart .Any Josephite would identify this theatre and I dont think anybody who went there was disappointed .there was always something about rex. the noise , guys and girls in their best. chants of start the ******** show and I am sure some of our readers would have hooked onto somebody special after an outing at rex.
Galaxy--all the Hindi movies were screened at the noon show.
Hindi movies those days were a strict no( I guess watching Hindi movies was not hep and the best part was no theatre in brigades or mgs used to screen them ).
But times have changed. I don’t know whether Hindi films are improved or English films got worse
Symphony--all the B grade action films were screened here .those jackie chan and django types. van dame Stallone, chuck Norris, lee name all the b graders you had them here..
Imperial--strictly for the functional types and those who never went to college, but had to learn something very important in life. if you didn’t go alteast once would have a missed a lot . That says something abt the theatre.
The best part abt going to movies those days you had 20 to 40 bucks you can have decent outing at the theatres.
Times change -all the college guys and girls have to run for the 10am show at pvr and inox to watch the latest flicks since going any other time would eat a large chunk of their pocket money.
I believe those between 26 to 34 fellow bangaloreans can identify with my article. The software pros who came in late may not be aware of the moods, importance, and fun of these places.
The he only remaining places are rex and symhony, never know when its curtains for them as we all get sucked in the multiplex culture.
stay tuned for part 2 of forgotten theatres of Bangalore.
