~My Tryst with Gelato Italiano~

I am a big fan of ice-cream and sundaes. Baskin Robbins have always topped the chart in my case – I have tried and tasted almost all their flavors and feel that it is premium and mouth-watering! Until one of my peer/colleague strongly suggested me to taste Mama Mia Geltao Italiano. I had tasted Gelato earlier (only once), but did not turn out to be a good experience. I feel Gelato Brand is over hyped and taste is not so good.

*First Occasion: Gelato Italiano, Priya Cinema, Kolkata** (Year 2008)

Went to watch a movie with family and relatives. It was scorching hot. The Gelato Italiano Stand in front of us seemed too tempting. Gushed in and placed rapid orders. We were in a group of 5-6 people. I tried the *Yoghurt Wildberry* flavor – which was advertised as one of their most premium flavors. Ice-cream tasted stale and pathetic. Melted quickly, could not savor the taste. Overall a bad experience altogether. Amount was 500-600.

*Second Occasion: Gelato Italiano, City Center 2, Kolkata** (Year 2012)

Being a regular customer of the Baskin Robbins shop in CC2 which is near my home, I was dis-heartened to see the shop closed one day when I visited the mall. I was about to leave when I noticed the Gelato Shop gleaming in the open façade. I decided to try a single scoop in a cone. After tasting more than 2-3 flavors, decided to take *Fer-Rocher*. Paid 125 INR for the same. The cone was not crunchy and the taste of ice-cream faded away too soon. Ice-cream tasted below ordinary. Post which I had to take a Swirls ice-cream to soothe my inner senses!

*Third Occasion: Gelato Italiano, City Center 1, Kolkata** (Year 2013)

I was on my way to collect a custom cake from Cookie Jar. Was about to leave the mall, when one of my colleague urged to have an ice-cream from the nearby stand since it was too hot. Temperatures in Kolkata was 38+ then. Initially I was reluctant but couldn’t say no. Took one scoop of *mango and black current* flavor. My colleague took litchi flavor. Both of us were regretting our decision after having tasted two licks of the ice-cream. There was more ice than cream. No fruits no nuts – and to top of it had a blunt taste! We had to throw the rest of the ice-cream in the waste basket. Amount: 395 INR

Finally I have decided to stay away from Gelato Shops. Not my Cup of Tea really. I have tried Baskin Robbins, Naturals Ice-Cream, Cream and Fudge and all turned out to be great except my tryst with Gelato. Suggestions and comments are welcome. ?

*End of the Story:** I convinced my colleague that Gelato Ice Cream is not good!

*P.S.** None of the Gelato Shops in Kolkata which I have tried are equipped with Card Machines. Really puts you in a false position when you are buying ice-creams of 500+ INR and do not have enough cash.
