Hello friends! I am Debjit from Kolkata amd this is my review of the Hero Glamour Disc after using for two and a half years. Asking for your apologies before hand as this review is going to be a bit long. As it is about a bike that is very close to my heart, and has served me really well.
I was in college back then and earned some income by giving tution to kids. Yes, I was a "Master Ji" too once!:)
I felt like having a bike for my daily chores of going to college and for the tutions. So, I was in the market for a 125 cc bike, which was not overtly underpowered nor too aggressive. And my other requirements were of a bike with decent looks and a decent mileage.
I am an ardent Yamaha fan for my first bike was an Rx-100, which I had bought 2nd hand for 15000 bucks. So instantly I was looking at 125 cc Yamahas. The options were YBR-125 and Gladiator. I had read good reviews reviews about the Gladiator and decided to go for it. I went to Aquad Yamaha Belgharia, and booked the Blue Yamaha Gladiator for Rs 65818. But while taking delivery I came to know the blue bike was out of stock and if I wanted to take the blue bike I was required to wait a month. I was dissapointed with their attitude towards me. Hence I went to Matali Yamaha at Barackpore for the same bike, but came to know that the bike was out of stock and due to low sales Yamaha didnt supply spares properly for the bike. They opted me to go for the SZ- RR model. But I wasnt too keen on going for a 150 cc just as of now.
I went to other bike manufacturers for there respective 125 ccs. Upon test drive of the Honda shine felt that the bike was vibey above 50 km/h and felt very light. I didnt completely reject it but thought of trying other bikes. Then I test rode the Suzuki Slingslot and found the bike to be very sluggish in its pick up. Though the bike felt very stable. I gave it a pass as I felt the bike wasnt goodlooking at all for me. Next I went for the hero glamours test ride. And the rest as they say is history.
I went to Cynosure Hero at Madhyamgram. They gave me a test drive. Instantly something clicked in me. The bike was so easy to ride. Seat height felt perfect. I decided on the spot and went for this bike. The price was Rs 66250 on road for the disc model. The price hasnt changed much till now. Its not more than Rs 70000 though.
Lets skip to the review of the bike without further ado.
Pros:
The looks are pretty attractive and you dont feel like riding a small displacement bike.
The mileage is massive in this bike. If I ride the bike between speeds of 40-50 km/h the mileage that the bike gives is somewhere between 60-65 kmpl.
The disc brake upfront is pretty responsive for the power it has.
The torque it has on offer is good for carrying loads of weight.
The seat height is very comfortable for low to medium height people.
The suspension works really well over good and bad roads.
The build quality is long lasting. I found some the body to be very tough after multiple drops at various speeds by me and my friends. Nothing really happened to the body or frame. Everything is really well guarded.
The seat length is really nice and and very good thigh support, though not very comfortable for long distances. Nothing that an aftermarket seat cant fix.
Top speed that I managed to achieve on this bike is a 105 kph, completely ducked and down a flyover near Burdwan.
The tank range from this 15 litre tank is anything between 900 to 1000 kms on full tank on the highway at a steady speed.
Parts and service are darn cheap. A paid service with engine oil change costs 600 bucks. A change in handlebar after an accident costed me just 400 bucks.
Very stable at 80-90 kph on the highways. This is due to the fact that it is a good 5 to 10 kgs heavier than other bikes in its segment.
Cons:
The headlights are very weak. I had gone for aftermarket Led lights on both legguards long back.
Tyres that came with the bike were TVS. Very bad traction and road grip. Changed them at a very early stage and went for Ceat Grip and Ceat Secura Zoom in the back and front. Helped the bikes handling immensely.
Front brake shoes wear off considerably in less time, compared to the durability of the rest of the bike.
The first and second gears are very rigid and stay that way for the entire life of the bike.
The drive chain gets loose and needs to be tightened very frequently.
The horns are fairly weak, and better unit needs to be fitted by the company.
There is an absense of tubeless tyres like its competitors.
The wires are exposed and sometimes the horns, lights and indicators doesnt work after a wash.
