MTNL TRI BAND 590 NU Broadband

I was using Reliance’s Rs 650 internet plan thru my Reliance FWP Phone; was OK initially, used to give 8-9 KB download speeds.

Then the speeds started crashing, prob bec of addition of more users.

Then saw this Triband 590NU package of MTNL’s-500MB Download per month

included, with unlimited download from midnight to 8 AM.

Applied for it, was told it would take 15 days to 1 month to install.

Rang up the Area manager of my xchange that I wanted it the same day;

gentleman was kind enough to have it installed in 5 days.

Once the thing got going it all seemed worthwhile-download speeds of30KBps,

pages opening in the blinking of an eye, joy reigned supreme, all smiled , incl the dog.

Everyday practically someone would ring up to enquire if the connection was working well! Could’nt believe this was the same MTNL that had made our lives hell with their fault repair attitudes.

BUT like all dreams, this had also to come to an end.

Got the first months bill with broadband charges of Rs 8000 instead of the Rs 670( 590+ 80 modem rental) that I was expecting.

Registered the complaint with the Helpdesk(ha! ha!), and was assured that someone would ring up the next day and the prob would be sorted out.

To cut the agonising story short, it took 45 days, over a 100 phone calls( aap is number pe ring kijiye, yahaan nahi ek doosra number lijiye and so on) 20+ Emails and 8 faxes. Everytime I called, someone or the other would ask me to come to Kidwai Bhavan ( the place in delhi from where the broadband is administered), alongwith an application and a photocopy of the incorrect bill! I of course flatly refused and told them that I was prepared to surrender my connection rather than submit to this indignity.

I am still awaiting the correct bill.

Guys, go in for MTNL’s plans only if you want to have a heart attack or suffer a continuous elevation in your BP readings; these guys still seem to be living in the days when they had a monopoly, and one had to beg and plead for fault rectification.

They have just not graduated to the modern ways of doing things-making connections by twisting wires together , asking for nails to fix the wire on the walls etc, taking care of their customers......

Am currently trying to persuade Airtel to come up with a matching scheme-I think they will do so shortly. That would any day be better so far as customer care is concerned. Can’t wait to switch from these guys!

Date-8th Sept 05;Just got to know about Airtel, Delhi’s latest broadband plan-

UNLIMITED 256Kbps https://m.mouthshut.com/1000 rel="nofollow" target="_blank" >@1000/- p.m.!!!!

Woweee! Is that great or is that great! I just can’t wait!

Imagine! no late nights, internet radio round the clock, movies round the clock!no anxious watching of the usage, fast and efficient after sales service unlike MTNL.

As it is, the MTNL 590NU Plan was costing me Rs 920 p.m.( 250 monthly rental for the phone line +590+80 modem rental) so it’s not going to cost much extra.

Will let you know my experiences with Airtel.........
