While watching the movie I failed to understand why I liked the series at all. There were 4 depressed buddhi aunties going thru their own set of problems. Wouldn’t really call it a set of problems – only man problems, really. Their drunken disparage sums up the movie - the good men screw ya , the bad men screw ya , and the others – they don’t know how to screw ya… !!
So coming back to why I liked the series ~ perhaps it was the independent spirit that the women had. They were young, spirited, booming & most of all, they didn’t really care about being single. So they went through one guy after another, dumping & being dumped, but it didn’t really bother them too much! They were living the lives they wanted, on their own terms. Whatever the situation in their lives were, they would make it a point to meet up with their friends, wine, dine, & let their hair down to avoid getting into the mumbo jumbo of the insanities of life ! And when I Say this, I mean to be talking primarily of Miranda & Samantha , as I must admit it was only these characters that made me watch the series after all.
By the end of the series, they had begun to grow into the state of inter-dependence. So when Miranda moved with her husband & babies, it wasn’t her weakness or dependence, she did it because she wanted too. When Samantha found herself in a steady relationship, she stuck on because she wanted to ~ not because she had too. So although they gave a rats a s s for people exclaiming at their fun, s a s s y & single status, they did embrace their relationships when they were comfortable with it !
So the series ended with a happy note where everyone seemed to have found their comfortable place in life. Carrie always wrote about finding love, and all the 4 ladies seemed to have found love. So it was all & all one of the most successful TV series & making a movie out of it made sense!
But honestly, I gotta check who made the movie, cuz Im a 100% sure they confused it with desperate housewives!!!
How things moved forward ~
Buddhi no 1: Carrie. Profession: Book writer. Lover: BF Big. Temperament: Confused, believes in fairy tale romance, somewhat irritating
What happened: Big flew half way around the world for Carrie & to make her his. After many many break ups & many many screw ups later. So what do we do of this track? Screw it all the more ! they decide to get married….. & why not let him dump her at the altar. So what if they have to show a morose, depressed Carrie for most of the movie after that !
Nahiiiiii !!! Why on earth would they want Big to dump her again after making him do that again & again & again! And why on earth did they show Carrie being numb & devastated by this! Even more stupid is showing her accepting him all over again!! If women are independent & free to do what they want, why will they voluntarily accept a man treat them like this. Seems pretty much out if place for the whole concept. Why wouldn’t we rather watch ZEE TV! Also, why over do the elaborate wedding charade! Women make the wedding bigger than the marriage - no wonder Carrie got dumped !
Buddhi no. 2: Miranda. Profession: Lawyer. Lover: Husband Steve. Temperament: Head strong, Career minded, cynic but soft at heart.
What happened: Miranda had accepted being in a family with a baby, a husband & mother-in-law, and had accepted living in Brooklyn. So what do we do with this track? Why not add the clichéd sexless marriage leading to infedility angle to it? So what if it means showing Miranda morose, depressed for most of the movie after that !
Nahiiiiii !!! Inspite if Miranda being an out & out cynic, there seemed harmony in the relationship where the guy accepted her with open arms regardless of her being very career-minded & far more successful than him. Nice & fresh. But why ruin it with the clichéd regular marriage issues drama. Why did they resort to showing Miranda irritated with juggling a thousand things!
Buddhi no. 3: Charlotte. Profession: Housewife. Lover: Husband Harry (cute as hell!). Temperament: Had always wanted to settle down with the love of her life & have babies.
What happened: Charlotte found a baby & happy husband… a perfect happy ending. What do we do with this track? Oh that’s ok, lets not touch it, but to show something, lets get her pregnant. That’s all shes wanted after all!
Nahiiiiii !!! There was nothing to this track at all. It was plain & dull. Yawn. Charlotte was easily side tracked in the whole lousy la la la.
Buddhi no. 4. Samantha. Profession: PR Agent. Lover: BF: I forgot the name. Temperament: hump till you die
What happened: Samantha became a full time PR agent for her famous actor boy friend & moved to LA. So what do we do with this track? Lets get her bored. Plain and simple.
Nahiiiiii !!! This wasn’t as bad. Although she did find a footing in her bf, she realised she loved herself more than him. Not bad at all.
YAWN…
So this chick flick was literally the case of chewing the same piece of gum too long. Not only was the jaw aching, the essence was completely missing. Probably in the world of famous designer clothing & endless closets! The Buddhi aunties looked frightening and each looked more than a 100 years old ! Humour was there, but sadly, very limited.
Wouldve made a great movie if the slates were cleaned & they wouldve come up with an alternate to the series. With new men in their lives & new ending altogether!
Sigh…
