The Sun TV has slowly started sinking and sinking for the male audience.The idiot box dishing out mega serials one after the other between 6.30 to 10.30 is slowly loosing its young and male audiences.The so called Mega flicks like Anantham, Kolangal, Muhurtham, Selvi and Manaivi are all female dominated serials full of draging pathos and just half an hour stories going for years based on stuipid uncertainities of the leading ladies waiting to find diary, father or family for years and making them so near and so far to keep the audiences at bay and filling the producer’s cash registers (the serial time is 12-14 min and the ad time is the balance in half an hour)
Common Thread
The lead in all the serials is a woman whether it is Radhika or Devayani or Sukanya. They are shown as protagonists of Society and are omnipresent in the serial. They are multi talented whether running home or offices. They have supreme power and are Know all woman. Behind them run the score of males and other ladies Old and Young.
Villi
Then you have the great Villi which you do not normally see in Tamil Cinema. The Villi seems to be the all inspiring for our Housewives to follow in real life. They are ceaseless in their endeavour to win the best Villi award. They can mesmerize men, they can fool ten men with their sweet talk, they can hatch a great plan to kill somebody and they can do anything that a movie Villian can do in Indian Cinema.
Men are ducks.
All men are shown as useless good for nothing guys who are either drunkard or beat their wives or cheats or arrogant Business men or followers behind the great Leading ladies. They don’t carry any self esteem and are poor thinkers and are parasites of this society.
Mahabharata
All the serials are rekindled from Mahabharata a fight between good and evil. Here you do not have Pandavas, you have only shishyas of one leading lady.
The whole thing sucks and is definitely a Time killer for which an antidote has to be found quickly.
When is this trend going to change and when are we going to see sleek package for everyone.The English flicks with tamil dubbing are atleast better that the quality stuff is being watched by these audience which will also improve their perception of what to expect from these channels.
One day you can look forward to English serials getting dubbed in tamil.The never ending story of mega serials should end then as it kills 1000s of hours of constructive development.
